This is a weekly event that highlights a book we can't wait to be published. It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
Val McDermid is one of my favorite authors. I love her characters of psychologist Tony Hill and police detective Carol Jordan. I've also read a couple of her standalone books. And I enjoyed the dark TV adaptations of the Hill/Jordan series called Wire In The Blood, which starred Robson Green. I know it wasn't for everyone, as it was a bit grim. However, sometimes, I really like grim. My book for this week is the 9th book in the series:
by Val McDermid
Publication Date: December 1st
Or do they? Tony Hill isn’t convinced. But he’s the only one. Former cop Carol Jordan is too busy messing up her life to care. Until she gets an unexpected second chance. Now it’s game on, and the stakes have never been higher.
I don't think that this is a book for me, but I hope you get to read, and enjoy, it soon. Thanks for sharing, and happy Wednesday! :)

Thanks so much, Petra! And, no, not every book is for every reader. :-)
DeleteI hope you get it soon.
ReplyDeleteIn a few months. :-)
DeleteI'm intrigued by the topic and it's very relevant as several celebrities have called out trolls. I'm not sure I'm going to go pre-order it but I'll definitely be looking for your review! It sounds really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see another in this series. It's one that I keep thinking may go away before long. We shall see.
DeleteI'm a fan of Val McDermid--her novels and the Wire in the Blood series with Tony Hill and Carol Jordan. I will be looking for this one as well, and it is certainly a topic with current implications!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a current topic. Glad to know there is another fan out there. :-)
DeleteSounds like an interesting topic.
ReplyDeleteTimely, I guess. :-)
DeleteOh, what a timely story! Online trolls and bullies scare me, but I wouldn't be able to stop reading. Thanks for sharing...and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: “THE LAST SEPTEMBER”
Yes, timely is the right word. We'll see how it plays out in this story.
DeleteSounds interesting. Since all bloggers know of one or more fellow bloggers who have been or are being hounded by terrible 'trolls.' -sigh-
ReplyDeleteTessa
It's one of the hazards of being on the internet. A risk. :-(
DeleteI've always wanted to read this author. I actually met her a year or two ago at BEA and she was very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've heard she is very interesting. I just love how she writes a crime story.
DeleteHmm, have always thought about starting Val McDermid's series, though they seem rather "grim" as you say; fairly violent acts are at the heart of most of her plots. Book one Hill/Jordan was about mutilation sex murders of gay men. I put it back on the shelf still not quite sold.
ReplyDeleteHowever I do read and love Karin Slaughter, so maybe I could accept these books more as a procedural and less as a sensationalist story. So many respected bloggers couldn't be off the mark on this. Thanks!
OK, Rita, if you can take Karin Slaughter, these might be all right for you. However, I'd tread cautiously. Did you ever try the TV series based on these books - Wire In The Blood? It's definitely graphic. I do like the way Val McDermid writes. You might try her standalone book, A Place Of Execution first and see if you like that one. Just a thought.
DeleteGreat pick :)

Thanks!
DeleteI've not read anything by this author. Looking forward to your thoughts. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be sure and share when I get a chance to read it.
DeleteI never read anything by this author but it does sound like a good read.
ReplyDeleteI think she's very talented.
DeleteHaven't read this series but this sounds good!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good crime series.
DeleteI don't think I have read anything written by Val. Hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteOK, you might like this series. Not positive, but it's a possibility, Joy. :-)
DeleteI watched the tv series, but I've not read anything by Val McDermid. I keep reading about her and her books which is probably a sign that I should read one of them! :)
ReplyDeleteThey are bit different from the TV adaptation, but that's ever the way, right?
