Waiting on Wednesday - Ink and Bone

This is a weekly event that highlights a book we can't wait to be published.  It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

I really like the loosely connected mystery series that Lisa Unger writes, set in The Hollows, upstate New York.  In the last few months, I've listened to the first 3 books connected to The Hollows - Fragile; Darkness, My Old Friend; and In The Blood.  They are all very good in case you wondered.  An upcoming book will also be connected to The Hollows and feature a few familiar characters.  My pick for this week is:

Publication Date:  June 7th

For as long as she can remember, twenty-year-old Finley Montgomery has been able to see into the future.  She dreams about events before they occur and sees beyond the physical world, unconsciously using her power to make supernatural things happen.

But Finley can’t control these powers—and there’s only one person who can help.  So Finley moves to The Hollows, a small town in upstate New York where her grandmother lives, a renowned seer who can finally teach Finley how to use her gift.

A gift that is proving to be both a blessing and a curse, as Finley lands in the middle of a dangerous investigation involving a young girl who has been missing for ten months and the police have all but given up hope.

With time running out there’s only so much Finley can do as The Hollows begins to reveal its true colors. As she digs deeper into the town and its endless layers, nothing is what it seems.  But one thing is clear: The Hollows gets what it wants, no matter what.

  1. I've read two by Unger. I really liked In the Blood about a disturbed eleven-year-old boy with an IQ of 180. Boy, was it tense. Ink and Bone sounds like another one I would enjoy.

    1. Yes, that one was quite scary. I'm still very curious about The Hollows and why so many damaged people seem to gravitate there.

  2. You're killing me Kay! I haven't read anything by this author but it sounds awesome and definitely sounds likes something I need on my TBR. I can never resist a missing persons case!

    1. I really like the way she tells a story, Katherine. As I said, this is a loosely connected series, so you can dip in and out. The main commonality is the setting, The Hollows, and a few of the characters.

    1. Well, this one won't be published until June, so there's some distance between. :-)

  5. I really enjoyed In the Blood and, as usual, meant to read more of Unger. The paranormal aspect of this one doesn't appeal much to me though - I'll wait and see what you think of it first...

    1. I don't suspect that the paranormal will be overly much. The psychic mentioned, the grandmother, has been in several of the books and it's not a huge part of the story. The Hollows itself is a creepy place, to me anyway.

  8. I think I've only read one book by this author and it was a so-so read. That said, this sounds like an intriguing read so I may want to check this out.

    2. I read Beautiful Lies which was published in 2006. It's a standalone, I think.

  9. I've read a couple of her books but didn't realize they were sort of connected! I have this one from NetGalley and am looking forward to it. I'm kind of in the mood for a good thriller type and this might be it!

    1. They are loosely connected, as in location and maybe a few characters.

  11. I love all Lisa Unger's books (okay a couple were good, not great, for me) but I enjoyed the NY trilogy very much. Hadn't heard of this one, but it's going on my auto-buy/borrow list now!
