Extending my 'spring break'...

Hello book friends!  Hope you are all well and had a Happy Easter yesterday.  I don't have any flower pictures for you this time, but I wanted to share a bit of an update on what I've been doing in the last few weeks.  And also say that my 'spring break' will be extended for a while longer.  No flowers are blooming in our yard quite yet, but our plants are slowly beginning to come out of their shells after the mega-cold weather our area experienced in February.  I was comparing to last year at this time and there are definite differences.  The bluebonnets are finally beginning to show up in Central Texas and also other wildflowers, but they have been much slower to appear.

As to regular life, we have been quite busy.  After a lot of thought, we decided to move forward with our eventual 'retirement' plan - location wise anyway.  We had always planned to move further out into the Texas Hill Country when my husband retired.  He is not doing that for a few years, but with the housing market in our area at an all-time peak, we have decided to sell our current house and look for one further into the Hill Country of Central Texas.  Nothing is finalized quite yet, but we plan to have an apartment in the Austin area and then decide on a place an hour or two away from Austin.  With my husband still working from home and the idea that his company will likely do a 'hybrid' type work thing in the future, it has seemed a workable plan.  Lots of decisions and work involved.

I have been distracted and busy and my reading has really taken a hit.  It will bounce back again after I don't have quite so many things to do and think about.  So, I'll be missing for more weeks.  Missing the chatting here, but I will definitely be back eventually.

Hope you all take care and enjoy your spring!

  1. Good luck with all the big things going on, Kay. I know moving is a huge challenge to take on but with the market the way it is it seems like a smart thing to do. Happy spring!

  8. You have a lot on your plate with that! Good luck as you guys finalize your plans. How wonderful to have a home in the hill country. Not that I go out a lot but the other day we went for a drive and I haven't seen many bluebonnets either. Well hopefully more will appear soon. Take good care Kay!

  9. Very exciting news. You are right about the housing market. Houses here are selling for 100K over asking which is insane given that they aren't that great and definitely not worth 800K. Lots of my friends sold and moved to Texas, Idaho or Tennessee.

  10. This sounds very exciting. I know moving is a lot of work and a hassle, so I can see that all your energies are going into planning for it.

My husband just put in his notice of retirement today and will be officially retired in June. He is 70. We won't be moving because our retirement plans have been all about being able to afford to stay in Santa Barbara. But I excited about more time for leisure activities.

  11. I hope everything works out as you move forward with your plans to relocate. My mom has been doing a lot of sorting and is starting to give things away. I honestly had given up on the idea she might move down this way to be closer to us, but it seems like maybe she's getting closer to being ready. As much as I hate the idea of her leaving behind her social network, as she gets older, I'd like her closer. We'll see. Take care and enjoy your break!

  12. Your plans make perfect sense - this does seem to be a seller's market in so many places right now. So I'd do the same thing you did. Looks like a lot of busy days ahead with all the moving and packing and preparing to sell. Hope you get a lot of downtime in between so you can read or watch something fun and relax.

  13. I've missed your bookish posts, but understand your need to focus on all that is coming your way. As always, we'll be here when you get back to blogging. Until then, be safe & well and good luck with the sale of your house!

  14. Wow! That's a big decision, but it is a great time to sell a house right now. My husband's job, when they do go back, will only be hybrid as well, only 2 or 3 days in the office a week. I hope that everything goes smoothly with the planning :)
