Good morning all! Hope you have had a nice weekend and are looking forward to fall. We don't have any 'fall-ish' things in our area as yet, but honestly, we don't get a lot of lovely turning leaves, etc. Too far south. Just happy that the 100-degree temps seem to be done for this year.
I thought I would share a few pics from our July vacation to New Mexico. We have loved visiting the Ruidoso area of that state for many years. We were in that part of the world just after the 4th and unfortunately heard about the flooding in Central Texas during our trip. Put a bit of a damper on things. Also, this area of New Mexico had big fires and flooding in 2024 and it was our first time visiting since that. They have worked so hard to get things mostly back to normal, but are still struggling with flooding exacerbated by the burn scars and debris that continues to flow into their river. In fact, we ended leaving a couple of days early because there was severe flooding during that July week. I'm afraid their recovery will be slow for quite a period of time.
However, on to happier notes. The picture below was one I took on a walk around the outside of the golf course that is in town. It's called 'The Links'. It was a lovely morning and my husband was enjoying the golf and I was loving my walk.
The bears are adorable! I know Henry would love them!

It is a very pretty area. Sad that wildfires are not uncommon there, but that's true of many other places as well.
DeleteThose bears are so cute!! I was wondering if you'd been back to Ruidoso since the fires and flooding... so sad. Judging from our experience with Sanibel, it takes longer to recover after something like that than you'd think. We're at the 3 year mark now and I think it's going to take at least another couple of years.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it does take a long time. With the fires, the trees and vegetation burned and the soot and ashes are extremely slippery I discovered. Nothing to hold back heavy rains and all that goes into the river and then it overflows. So sorry that Sanibel will have longer still for recover. Sigh.
DeleteWow love the photos. That must be a green area of the State. What a pretty area. I like that the bears are guarding the library. We need to return to New Mexico ... as much to see there.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a green area of New Mexico. Mountains and even ski slopes. It's in a more southern part of the state kind of in the center part. The bears do seem to be guarding the library. LOL

ReplyDeleteThey were definitely memorable. There are lots of 'bear' statues in that area. And, guess what? The Smokey Bear Museum (yes, it's an actual museum) is just up the road in Capitan, NM. Bears are everywhere in central NM - ha!

DeleteWe are the same with the no fall weather yet but have had nights that are in the high 70s so I take that as a win! I love the bear statues. There's an Agatha Christie called Murder on the Links. I'd be tempted to read it there though the setting is very different!

ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to all the people who have suffered from fires & flooding these past few years. Oregon had a few fires, but I seems like there weren't as many as in years past.
Isn't it fun to walk around a golf course? That is, as long as a stray ball doesn't come your way! The Inn of the Mountain Gods looks beautiful. Cute bear totem at the library. :)
Yes, way too many places all over the US and Canada have had trouble with the forest fires. Very sad and hard to get over especially in places that depend on visitors so much. I do like walking 'around' a golf course. And I also know to watch out for balls heading my way. Ha! The Inn Of The Mountain Gods is a lovely resort.
DeleteNo 100+ temps here either, but it's in the high 90's. I hope it cools down soon! I think it's supposed to. Thank you for sharing about your trip in New Mexico! I visited a little bit of the state on a road trip years ago with my husband (pre-child). What we did see was beautiful (except maybe our visit to the emergency room). Fire and flood recovery takes time. I am glad to hear the area is getting closer to what it was before hit by both last year.
