'Waiting on Wednesday' is an event where I feature an upcoming book that I am extra excited about. I used to do this in the past and am making it a priority to do again. Seriously, who among us doesn't have a book or two or twenty that we are excited about reading? Plus, it lets us 'spread the word' about authors and series that we personally enjoy.
I have enjoyed all the books I've read by Australian author Jane Harper. She has a new book coming out in April, though it is already available in Australia. I'm very much looking forward to trying this new one. I really liked Jane's books that feature Federal Agent Aaron Falk. She has written a few standalones as well and I haven't quite made my way through all of them. Not sure if this new book will be part of a series, but I'm on board to try it. How about you? Read any Jane Harper books? What did you think?
Last One Out
by Jane Harper
Publication Date: April 14th
From the New York Times bestselling author of Exiles and The Dry comes a captivating new novel set in a modern ghost town.
Carralon Ridge, a once vibrant village in rural New South Wales, has become a shell of itself, its houses and buildings bought up and left to rot by the mining company operating at its borders. A decade into its slow death, surrounded by industrial noise and swathed in thick layers of dust, the skeletal town is all but abandoned, with just a handful of residents clinging onto what remains.
After years of scorning those who left the Ridge behind as it fell into ruin, Ro never imagined she'd become one of them. But everything changed when she lost her son. Five years ago, Sam vanished while visiting during a break from college, leaving behind a rental car with his belongings inside. Sam had loved Carralon Ridge, and had been working on an oral history of the town to preserve its legacy before it vanished altogether. It wasn't long after his disappearance that the rest of the family began to crumble away too.
But when Ro returns to Carralon Ridge to be with her husband and daughter on the anniversary of Sam's disappearance, she begins to suspect that something important was overlooked in his case. Because while nothing can stop Carralon Ridge from dying, someone seems to want to make sure that its secrets die with it.

I haven't read any of Jane Harper's books - yet. Hope this one is a winner for you!

I do too, Mary. As I mentioned, I've loved her Aaron Falk series best, but I have enjoyed others that are standalones. We shall see.
DeleteI've read 3 of her early books and liked them ... with Aaron Falk. I'm a bit sad she's retired him. But this novel upcoming sounds pretty good and now the premise has me curious. I might add to my list, thanks for April 14.
ReplyDeleteYes, I really liked Aaron Falk. One can always hope that there might be another book featuring him at some point. Glad that you might think about trying this one, Susan.
DeleteI've enjoyed her earlier books too, especially the Aaron Falk ones, so I'm looking forward to this one too!
ReplyDeleteAnother Aaron Falk fan! I think many of us really liked those. We'll see how this one goes, right?
DeleteI've also read and enjoyed her books. This one looks good too.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Margaret. Wonder if this might be the start of another small series for her. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
DeleteOoh...this one sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteI thought so, Lark. Hoping to get to it soon after it releases.
DeleteI loved the Aaron Falk series, but I also loved The Lost Man, which is a standalone. However, I didn't care for The Survivors. I'll give this new one a read, but I'll opt for a copy from the library.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a plan, Les. I do remember that you really enjoyed The Lost Man. I think I liked The Survivors more than you, but Aaron Falk books are still my favorites. Feel sure the libraries will be ordering this one.
DeleteI've read a couple of her books, and I really love the Australian settings. This sounds like it will be a good mystery!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Angela. I have enjoyed this author's Australian settings too. As to the mystery, we shall see...
DeleteI have the first two books by Harper in the Aaron Falk series, but as often happens, I have not read them yet. I should get to them sometime soon... It seems that that series is very popular.
ReplyDeleteTracy, I think a bunch of people have enjoyed this series. Hope you can read it at some point. The first book is The Dry.
DeleteI have The Dry on my list for this year because it's ridiculous that I haven't read it yet. I really like the sound of this one so I look forward to seeing what you think of it.
ReplyDeleteKatherine, I think The Dry is very good. Hope you get to try it soon. And I'm hopeful for this new one as well.
DeleteJane Harper is wildly popular here, but I have not read anything yet that she has written.
