'Waiting on Wednesday' is an event where I feature an upcoming book that I am extra excited about. I used to do this in the past and am making it a priority to do again. Seriously, who among us doesn't have a book or two or twenty that we are excited about reading? Plus, it lets us 'spread the word' about authors and series that we personally enjoy.
This week I'm 'waiting on' a new book by one of my favorite authors, Craig Johnson. This is the 22nd book in his Walt Longmire series, set in Wyoming. I have enjoyed the books featuring Sheriff Longmire and his team and family since the very first one, The Cold Dish. I haven't read every single one of them, but my husband has read all the ones available at this time and he's a big fan too. I also really liked the TV adaptation of Walt and company as well. Have you read any of this series? It's one I recommend.
Publication Date: May 26th
A masterful new novel in the beloved New York Times bestselling Longmire series
When Pepper McKay, one of the most hated men in Absaroka County, is found murdered on his ranch in Crazy Woman Canyon, suspects aren’t in short supply. But Sheriff Walt Longmire’s attention is on those who had gathered for a family meeting that evening, McKay’s very different sons: a smooth-talking charmer, a cosmopolitan journalist, a reclusive monk, and a half-Native ranch hand who keeps the place running. Each had a motive. Each claims he’s innocent.
As Walt investigates what happened that night at the O-Kay Lodge, he’s pulled into a tangle of old grudges and long-buried secrets. Then the case takes a sharp turn: a second body surfaces, and a wildfire tears through the canyon, trapping Walt and forcing him into a fight for his life as both the killer and the elements close in.
The twenty-second novel in the Longmire series, The Brothers McKay is a murder mystery and a survival thriller that tests the sheriff’s hard-won sense of justice—all while paying sly homage to Dostoevsky’s classic.

I haven't read this series but I do love the Wyoming setting - I don't come across that one much!
ReplyDeleteNo, I understand. And the author, Craig Johnson, lives in Wyoming. He gets it right.
DeleteYes, I've read about half a dozen of these, and enjoyed them all. But back then I read all of those my library had and they were quite expensive to buy as paperbacks from Amazon so my reading of them came to a halt. I must look again to see what the Kindle price is now. But gosh, is he up to 22 books now? Wow.
ReplyDeleteAmazing that this is #22, right? Hope you can find some of the ones that you haven't read. I do think they put some of them on sale for Kindle reading from time to time.
Delete22 books! I didn't realize there were so many. I think we watched a season of the TV show once. And it seems the books would be enjoyable. I hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have enjoyed them. The TV show was well done, though not exactly like the books. Those adaptations are never exactly the same.
DeleteI didn't realize the Longmire series was still going on! I watched the first couple of seasons of the show but never tried the books. I should give them a try.
ReplyDeleteIt is still progressing. We'll see how much longer Craig Johnson add to it. The books are a little different from the TV show. The actor that plays Walt Longmire was a little younger than Walt in the books, but I thought it was well done.
DeleteI haven't tried the series but I love a Wyoming setting. I will look for the show.
ReplyDeleteMary
Hope you like it, Mary, if you can find a way to see it.
DeleteWe loved the tv series, but I haven't read any of the books.
ReplyDeleteYes, I did like that TV series a lot. Sad it went away. The books are good, but a bit different - not hugely, but some.
DeleteThis is another series I've never dipped into, even though I've only heard good things about it. I just find it intimidating to start such a long series. But maybe I don't have to start with the first book?
ReplyDeleteLark, I would at least read the first book just to learn about the characters. Just a suggestion, but then you could go forward. :-)
DeleteI'm impressed that your husband has read all the books... that's a long series!
ReplyDeleteYes, he's been reading it a long time and we have also listened to several of them when we were travelling.
