This is a weekly event that highlights a book that we can't wait to be published. It's hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
My selection for this week is the 7th book in Elly Griffiths' mystery series that stars forensic archaeologist, Dr. Ruth Galloway, and DCI Harry Nelson. It's set in the Norfolk area of England. And I love it! Ruth Galloway is a wonderful protagonist. She's a real, ordinary woman. Not necessarily in her choice of profession, which is fascinating, but she's not a size 0. She's not 22 and beautiful. She is a single mother of sweet Kate, and Ruth has some very memorable friends - like Cathbad, a Druid. She and Nelson have a complicated relationship, to say the least. The first book in the series is The Crossing Places. Meantime, here is the new book:
by Elly Griffiths
Publication Date - May 19th
Events are further complicated by a TV company that wants to make a film about Norfolk’s deserted air force bases, the so-called Ghost Fields, which have been partially converted into a pig farm run by one of the younger Blackstocks. As production begins, Ruth notices a mysterious man lurking on the outskirts of Fred Blackstock’s memorial service. Then human bones are found on the family’s pig farm. Can the team outrace a looming flood to find a killer?
Laced with dry humor and anchored by perennial fan favorite Ruth, The Ghost Fields will delight fans new and old.
I need to catch-up on this series! I read the first three and just loved them. A lot of it definitely has to do with how real Ruth is.
ReplyDeleteRuth is quite real, isn't she? You feel like you could just sit down with her and have a visit.
DeleteAgree with your choice! This is my favorite series right now. I have the book on pre-order. One starts to care about the secondary characters in this series too. Am enjoying your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lynn! Yes, you do care about everyone and want to see what will happen in their lives next. For me, that's the mark of a good series.
DeleteWhat an interesting cover! Sounds like a good story, too. Do these have to be read in order or can I jump right into this one?
ReplyDeleteKim, you could jump in. The author does a pretty good job of sharing the necessary info to introduce the characters without belaboring the point. However, like most series, the characters do change and grow and have things happen. Depends on your tolerance for not knowing every detail. My tolerance is low. LOL
DeleteThat's one I'm eagerly awaiting too! I also loved her last one - The Zig Zag Girl - a standalone. I missed a couple of the early Ruth Galloway books and keep meaning to catch up...
ReplyDeleteI have heard only a little about THE ZIG ZAG GIRL. I need to go see if I can find that one. OK, I just looked and it won't be published here in the US until September. Good to know that you liked it.
DeleteI'll have to check this series out. It looks really good. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by, Jill!
DeleteI love the sound of this one...thanks for sharing and enjoy. And thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laurel-Rain!
DeleteI've read a couple in this series, and this one sounds interesting. I like the idea of the Ghost Fields, the abandoned WWII air bases.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in that as well, Jenclair. I think the cover with the plane is a good hook.
