This is a weekly event that highlights a book we can't wait to be published. It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
Karin Slaughter is a favorite author of mine and she has been for quite some time. Her books are not to everyone's taste. Several members of my mystery book group are not fans, but some others are. I think she's an author that you either really like or her books are not for you. In any case, I'm always excited to see a new book with her name on it. I love her Grant County books and I really, really love the Will Trent books. Will, an investigator for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, has had a special place in my heart ever since I first read about him in Triptych. All that being said, this year's book is a stand alone and will not include Will. Sigh. My choice for this week:
Publication Date: September 29th
Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.
More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia's teenaged sister, Julia, vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.
The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.
Years ago someone recommended her books to me and I added them to my list, but never had a chance to read them. This sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteI love them. They are definitely not cozies though. :-)
DeleteI haven't read this author but she's been slowly creeping on to my Authors I Want to Try list. I like the sound of this one and am going to have to add this (and the first Will Trent book) to my TBR.
ReplyDeleteBe warned that Triptych is a little grim. Just saying. I think her standalones are a little more mainstream.
DeleteMmmmm, sounds goooood!
ReplyDeleteMerci!
Does sound good right?
DeleteI've not checked this author out before so this weeks is a new one for me. It sounds like a interesting choice though. Going to add to my TBR because it sounds like my kind of read. Thanks so much for sharing. Have a great week. My WoW
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for stopping by, Mandy!
DeleteI have not read this author in a while, but I do have one of her books on my Kindle. This one looks good! Thanks for sharing....
ReplyDeleteYou should try her, Laurel. I think you might like her books. A little grim, but compelling.
DeleteI haven't read this author, but the blurb you posted sure sounds good!
ReplyDeleteThis one does sound good, right?
DeleteSounds good. I've only read a short story by her. Going to add this to my TBR.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Hope to make another fan!
DeleteI'd be interested in reading this though I'm not much of a fan of her Grant County series.
ReplyDeleteGrant County was pretty violent wasn't it? And I didn't really like Sarah in those books or Lena.
DeleteCreepy cover. I generally stay away from mysteries. They keep me up at night.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my post, Kay!
OK, Rosie, if you don't like mysteries, I'd pass on this one. Might not be your cup of tea. LOL
DeleteI'm not familiar with Karin Slaughter, but I like the sound of her books and this blurb as well!
ReplyDeleteMonica, her books are a little grim, but I love them. Looking forward to this one for sure.
DeleteWoo hoo for being WOW twins this week! I love Karin Slaughter a lot too, though it's rare for me to run into many others who know her for some reason. I'm glad you like her too though, and even though the Grant County series has been my favourite so far, Will is definitely my favourite character she's ever created (besides Lena).
ReplyDeleteI hadn't seen this version of the cover of Pretty Girls, but I like it! Can't wait for it to come out!
I don't find too many people who love her books like I do. I think you and I have talked about her before. You really like Lena, right? Me, not so much at all, but I think you might be the only person I've heard that really does like her. Quite the prickly character. :-)
DeleteHadn't heard of this before, sounds interesting!
ReplyDeleteJoana @ The Boundless Book List
Thanks for coming by, Joana!
DeleteGreat choice! This is the first I've heard of this book but it sounds good.
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
Thanks for coming by Krystianna!
DeletePretty Girls is totally on my TBR list. My first Karin Slaughter novel was Cop Town which I thoroughly enjoyed last summer. Great choice. Stop by my Facebook page and participate in my Virtual Book Club. Ashley at Chronicles
ReplyDeleteOh, you should try some of her other books as well, Ashley. She writes some great series.
DeleteAh, Karin Slaughter! Probably in my top 5 favorite authors currently. I have read and loved all her books, each and every one of them. I love Will Trent :) and miss him. Hope after this stand-alone she will go back to the series, but I'm sure after such a long-running one that she needs to recharge. Thanks for featuring this!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about Will. I hope she'll include him again in her books. I'm not read to let him go, but she may be running out of stories for him. I'm still thinking about whether I like him with Sara.
DeleteWow. This sounds really tense and fascinating, and the cover is so haunting.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading it!
