Waiting On Wednesday - The Kept Woman

This is a weekly event that highlights a book we can't wait to be published.  It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

I am a big fan of Karin Slaughter's books.  I know she is not to everyone's taste, but I especially love her character of Will Trent.  Love him!  Slaughter's last book, Pretty Girls, was a tough read even for me.  I kept wishing for Will to lighten things up.  I got my wish for the new one.  This week I'm waiting on:

Publication Date: September 20th

With the discovery of a murder at an abandoned construction site, Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is brought in on a case that becomes much more dangerous when the dead man is identified as an ex-cop.

Studying the body, Sara Linton—the GBI’s newest medical examiner and Will’s lover—realizes that the extensive blood loss didn't belong to the corpse. Sure enough, bloody footprints leading away from the scene indicate there is another victim—a woman—who has vanished . . . and who will die soon if she isn’t found.

Will is already compromised, because the site belongs to the city’s most popular citizen: a wealthy, powerful, and politically connected athlete protected by the world’s most expensive lawyers—a man who’s already gotten away with rape, despite Will’s exhaustive efforts to put him away.

But the worst is yet to come. Evidence soon links Will’s troubled past to the case . . . and the consequences will tear through his life with the force of a tornado, wreaking havoc for Will and everyone around him, including his colleagues, family, friends—and even the suspects he pursues.

  1. This sounds intriguing. I'll have to add that to my TBR list.

  2. Sounds very good. My sister-in-law is a big fan of Slaughter's books. Yet another series I need to try in retirement. :)

    1. You might like it, Les. I know you sometimes like the books that are a little more...

  3. This does sound good, Kay! I need to read more in this series. The book I read barely featured Will Trent, and I wouldn't mind getting to know him better.

  4. Agree Karin may not be to everyone's taste but she's at the top of my list! Love me some Will Trent too. Even though Amanda can be an...unpleasant person/boss, her relationship with Will is a favorite. Especially after all that was revealed in Criminal.

Though The Kept Woman is supposed to be Angie centered I still can't wait to read it. I would pay her money to set up a cage match between Lena and Angie! Lena can be hard to take, but Angie's just plain mean. Sad childhood or not that woman's evil! So I'd have to root for Lena in that fight.

If you feel like a drive north on I35, and have never seen Karin in person she will be at the North Richland Hills Library (between Dallas and FW - though closer to FW) on Sept 23 at 1:00. I'll be there front and center!

    1. I agree about Angie. I can't stand her and I don't care what she came from. I find it very hard to have any sympathy for her at all. Wish I could come to that event. Have a great time!!

  5. I really want to try this author. This blurb doesn't grab me as much as others I've seen but I love a good suspense read!

    1. I find this whole series very good, but it's a little too much for some in our mystery group.

  6. I read Blindsighted and liked it, but am not sure if that's the same series as this one. It must be as Sara Linton is in both but Fantastic Fiction lists them as different.

    1. Cath, at first Sara Linton was in the series that begins with Blindsighted. Will Trent showed up in Triptych. Then Slaughter combined the series sort of and so Sara and Will are both in the same series now. Kind of confusing, I know. I think if you read all the books in the order she wrote them, it would make more sense.

  8. I've only read one Karin Slaughter book but I think that was before I had gotten into crime fiction. I was in my cozy phase at the time and you can imagine this was a surprise! haha... I really should give her another go one of these days.

    1. Yes, I can imagine. There are a few members of our mystery group that were practically traumatized when we read one of Slaughter's books. They still tease me about it.

    1. I'm excited about it, though from what I hear Angie (who I don't like at all) plays a big part. We'll see how it goes.

  10. One of the book clubs I used to belong to had a lot of Karin Slaughter fans. I have never read her books though. Maybe some day!

  11. I have read every single book in the Grant County/Atlanta series over the past few years. One day I discovered her first book in used paperback store and went back the next week and bought an armload. She is that good a writer! Now, I know I keep talking about choosing lighter or quieter reads lately, but for Ms. Slaughter I'll make the exception and read this one asap. Just hoping it's not nearly as rough a read as the last one that I almost DNF due to the high level of abuse against women. I realize she was making a point, but it was a tough read to get through. Can't wait for more Will, yay!

  12. I have only read Blindsighted and just realized I didn't do a review on it, sigh. I really want to try Pretty Girls. I heard it is not an easy read but I do like the bloody, emotional, torture types, eeek, they have me on the edge of my seat, so I look forward to it.

    1. Pretty Girls is definitely gripping, but pretty brutal. Terrible crimes. I had a hard time putting it down.

  13. After completing my first Karin Slaughter book this week (Cop Town), I'm definitely interested in reading more of this author. I thought her character development was very good and she kept my interest with all the story twists. I will probably start at the beginning of this series, unless you think they can stand alone?

    1. She does write some standalone books, like Pretty Girls, but most are part of her two series that then became one series. The first Grant County book is BLINDSIGHTED and the first book that Will Trent appears in is TRIPTYCH.

    1. Karin Slaughter's type of writing seems to either work for the reader or not. I love it. Many in our mystery group do not. But many do. If that makes sense. LOL
