I'm posting a 'soon to be released' book on Wednesdays. These will always be books that I am particularly looking forward to. I'll be linking up to 'Can't-Wait Wednesday' hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings and plan to take part in this each week.
It's been a long time since I read a book by this week's author. Many years, in fact. She's continued to write and I've meant to read more, but other books have caught my fancy. The blurb for this book rather shouted at me - 'you'll like me!!' - so, this week I'm waiting on:
Publication Date: September 25th
In 1940, eighteen-year old Juliet Armstrong is reluctantly recruited into the world of espionage. Sent to an obscure department of MI5 tasked with monitoring the comings and goings of British Fascist sympathizers, she discovers the work to be by turns both tedious and terrifying. But after the war has ended, she presumes the events of those years have been relegated to the past forever.
Ten years later, now a radio producer at the BBC, Juliet is unexpectedly confronted by figures from her past. A different war is being fought now, on a different battleground, but Juliet finds herself once more under threat. A bill of reckoning is due, and she finally begins to realize that there is no action without consequence.
This sounds like a good espionage thriller!
ReplyDeleteI think the MI5 description caught my eye - though I don't think MI5 really existed during WWII or not under that name.
DeleteI thin you might be right- but same here. I saw MI5 and my ears perked up!
DeleteOh the synopsis has me intrigued!
ReplyDeleteIt sounded good to me too!
DeleteExcellent choice! I'm adding it to my list.
ReplyDeleteCatherine, you have a list like mine - it trails off across the miles, right? LOL
DeleteI had the same reaction to this one, Kay. It's years since I read Kate Atkinson and her last few books really haven't appealed to me much, though I know loads of people have loved them. But the blurb of this one caught my eye, so I'm waiting too...
ReplyDeleteOh, good. You'll probably get to it before I will when it comes out and your reviews are so comprehensive - they are great!
DeleteI haven't read anything by Atkinson, but I've heard good things about her. This one sounds like an intriguing read!
ReplyDeleteSusan, she writes in an interesting way. A bit different for sure.
DeleteI have this one. Haven't started reading it yet, but I like the premise. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you like it, Jenclair. I'll watch for your thoughts if you get to share them.
DeleteThis sounds like a great thriller. I will have to add this one.
ReplyDeleteMary my CWW!
I hope so - it sounded good anyway.
DeleteI'm not a big reader of espionage books but I do hope you love this one!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I read a book that included MI5.
DeleteUnsurprisingly even though I'm not entirely sure about the subject matter, this is on my wishlist too.
ReplyDeleteWell, you did just read another book by this author, so that makes sense.
DeleteThis sounds so interesting! I think I've only read one of her previous books.
ReplyDeleteYes, I read a really early book of hers that I can't even remember the name right now. Ha!
DeleteThat blurb has definitely piqued my interest!! Glad you shared it :)
ReplyDeleteHere's mine: http://bit.ly/CWWed4 sorry i'm commenting late my laptop does not like this hot British weather!! :D
Thanks for stopping by - and sorry it's been so hot for you guys. I live in Texas. Summer is always hot. Ha!
DeleteOh my goodness. I rarely buy a book as soon as it comes out, but it is going to be hard to resist this one. I am a fan of the author, and this is my kind of book.(And this is the first I have heard of it!)
ReplyDeleteGlad to give you a new book to wish for, Tracy. Maybe you can find it at the library after it comes out.
DeleteBorrowing would be better than buying, Kay, but I don't use the library at this point. Maybe after I retire. Going back and forth to work is about all I am up for these days.
DeleteI have only read one of her books, and loved it. I have a couple of her others on my shelf to read. This one sounds like it will be good too.
ReplyDeleteI hope it is. Looking forward to trying it anyway.
