On my morning walk...

So, this was the creature that crossed my path this morning on my walk around the neighborhood.  Just happily scuttling along.  Want to come with me tomorrow?  Ha!  Ha!  I know you all love it when I document the animals that share our space here in Central Texas.  Got any fun spiders in your life?  These actually don't bother me - not that I want one to crawl up my arm or anything.  However, they feed on cicadas, camel crickets and grasshoppers and those guys annoy me to death.  And they 'sing' all night (the cicadas) - loudly!  I say 'go for it, Mr. Tarantula or Ms. Tarantula'!

    1. Les, sorry I wasn't clear. It's not the spiders that sing - it's the cicadas. On and on and on...

  3. And, I enjoyed a small fox scurrying past me LOL

  4. They aren't the most attractive characters to meet on a walk, but as long as they don't bother you and they feed on other annoyances that's good. :)

  5. Wow! My son would be having a heart attack for sure. :) I don't mind spiders as long as they aren't crawling on me or caught in my hair...

    1. I agree. I'd much rather have spiders than mosquitoes or scorpions.

  6. Very cool pic! I don't mind spiders when they're outside; it's when they come into my house that I have problems with them. ;D

    1. We get some little ones in the house at times, but no tarantulas.

  7. We get some little ones in the house, but not too many. I just don't want to have any scorpions in the house. At all.

  8. Oh, my!! I've never seen a tarantula out in the wild. I made the mistake of googling tarantulas in Kansas, and found out there are over 500 breeds of them here. Eek! At least they keep the annoying bugs under control.

    1. 500 breeds? I had no idea. Bet there are just as many here.

  9. I walked one across the road in front of our house last week so no one would run over him. He had walked up drive way and was heading across. No one would have seen him. lol

  11. Yikes! These creatures are fine out in the wild as long as they aren't in our house, ha. I'm scared of lizards, too.

    1. Melody, there are also lizards around. Some are quite odd looking. Ha!

  12. Good capture! We don't have tarantulas here, but we always see the usual semi-rural creatures.

    1. Yes, there I was bending over in the street with my phone trying to take a picture of that spider. I'm sure I looked nutty. Ha!

  13. Ugh! That thing wouldn't have to bite me - I'd die automatically if it came within ten yards of me!

    1. Yes, I know many people feel that way. I really, really dislike mice or rats.

  14. Cicadas drive me crazy, too, with all their noise, so it's good that other creatures eat them. I just don't want to SEE those creatures -- yikes!

    1. Well, I almost missed seeing this one, but caught the movement out of the corner of my eye. Ha!

  15. The one thing that I'm always surprised at is the deer. I can't believe there are so many that come up to houses. Oh and scorpions now those I don't like at all!

    1. We have a lot of deer in our area and usually some in the backyard every day. Earlier this afternoon, I killed a very large scorpion inside the house. Ick! First one I've seen inside this year. Hate those. I never go barefoot because you just don't know what you might step on.

  17. Are tarantulas native to Central Texas? I don't think they are native here along the Texas Gulf Coast.

A teacher friend has a tarantula as her class pet. The kids love it.

It's an acquired taste, I guess.

    1. I'm not sure about the native status of tarantulas. Wouldn't be surprised.

  18. Hi Kay, ok yuck! I am not fearful of (regular type) of spiders found in houses, but that one is a monster! Also when I lived in FL we had to be careful of black widows and brown recluses found in sheds and such.

Keep up the good work with your walking-- I envy you your determination. Book talk soon!

    1. Yes, I understand about the black widows and brown recluses. We have those as well. I think the warmer climates have lots of bugs of all kinds.

  19. I barely need to comment. You KNOW what I think! Though I thought sidewalks were safe. But the damn ticks here have been awful this year, as they were the year you came. It has been rainy and damp a lot of the time which is what they love. I can't count how many we've pulled off poor Lucy.

    1. Yes, I know what you think, ha! Not a sidewalk - edge of the paved street. The spider was crossing the road. And you know what I think about ticks. I hate the thought of them. Ick!

  20. While at camp, I didn't see any critters except turtles in the lake. I am okay with spiders as long as they know to keep their place. If they do, I leave them be. I held a tarantula once and I was surprised how hefty it was.
