I'm stopping by for a minute to wish everyone out there 'HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!' My own mother, greatly loved, greatly missed, has been gone for almost 13 years. However, I am still so very grateful for the love, kindness, and caring she shared with me - her oldest adopted daughter. She was truly the best!
No, I've not disappeared completely and, yes, I've been reading your posts and thoughts even though my commenting has been almost nil. Sorry about that. I seem to go through these periods of not feeling 'inspired' or whatever about keeping up with this blog. I don't seem to be able to let it go, however. Do you think that blogging is winding down? I heard a comment on a podcast recently that said that 'blogging' was not something that younger people wanted to deal with or keep up with. Quicker things that take less time are more in favor or so it was said. Ah well. I notice that several of us post less than we did, but I think for me, blogging 'seasons' come and go. What do you think? Are we 'winding down'?
What's going on with me? Well, today, I am helping out with and attending a 'mystery writers panel' at my local library. Three mystery authors will be talking to us and to each other about their craft of writing mysteries. I will definitely be back next week at some point to share a few pictures and tell about what they talked about. The three authors are Skye Alexander (who lives here in Kerrville), Laura Oles (from Austin), and K.P. Gresham (also from Austin). More to come on this!
I won't make this post too long today and that way I'll have more to share in upcoming posts. However, I'm grateful for over an inch of rain we got last night. We can definitely use it! Also, almost all our house renovation is completed and we were able to have family come a couple of weeks ago to take a tour and share our new area. That was a lot of fun. Our daughter and son-in-law came last weekend and we had a great time with them. We've got a couple of trips planned for summer and one planned in the fall. Life goes on and it's been pretty good lately. I'll talk more about reading and book groups later.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!! See you soon!
Glad you're still around! And I hope blogging's not winding down, but lots of my favorite bloggers are either posting much less or gone completely. It's sad...but everything in life comes and goes and changes over time. Have a great weekend! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lark. Yes, I agree that everything in life changes over time. I think that blogging is something that is a fun activity (or is for a time) or it becomes too much and not fun. As long as I can take breaks, I think I'll be around for a long time. :-)
DeleteHappy Mother's Day, Kay! I know for me I'm just tired and busy after work, and when I do have spare time I'm not inspired to blog. Our school year is wrapping up next week and I'm hoping to jump back into reading & blogging over the summer. I do think the younger generation is more into Instagram and TikTok, but maybe old school blogs will make a comeback. :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a Happy Mother's Day as well, Diana. Yes, I hear you about blogging 'inspiration'. I think that describes me too. I go through periods or seasons where it's great and then hit a time when it's not as fun. I agree about Instagram and TikTok for younger ones. What are the book posts called - Bookstagram and Booktok? Ha! Always enjoy what you share with us. Hope your summer is a good one for reading.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day, Kay. I'm glad to see you pop in again! I think I must've listened to the same podcast (although I can't remember which one it was now!) and it does occur to me that most of my blog friends are of a certain age. When I started blogging in 2008, my kids were impressed that I was so current and "technologically advanced"... now they think it's "quaint" that I'm still here! I don't post as often now, but can't imagine giving it up either.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your renovations are nearly done, and know what a relief that must be for you! We're finally making progress on the hurricane flooded lower level, but plan to put interior work on hold while we leave for the summer. Will look forward to hearing about your trips and reading in future posts. :)
Thank you very much, JoAnn! Hope your Mother's Day was a good one too. I love the fact that your kids think your blogging is 'quaint' - that's so fun! Yes, I think I'm in it for the long haul as long as can take breaks when it suits me. And I do that. Good to hear your update on your own repairs. One just has to patient about all that. Take care!
DeleteSo glad to see you! Blogging has been "winding down" for years now but I figure as long as my blogger friends are still around and I'm still enjoying it than I'll keep going. The mystery writers panel sounds so fun! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI agree that blogging has been changing over the years. Some have left or only do other social media and some of us still hang out. I think I'll be here as long as I can take breaks when I choose and then come back and update as the mood strikes. I do enjoy hearing what you and everyone has been reading and what's up in your world. That panel was indeed fun and I'll write an update about it in a few days.
DeleteSo nice to read this post, Kay! You've been missed. I continue to blog and probably will as long as I continue to read. :) There's still enough "conversation" with my blogging friends, so I don't feel as if I'm talking to the wall, but I sure do miss the days when the blogosphere was still fresh and exciting. I miss a lot of those early bloggers who have long stopped posting, but I have several "new-ish-to-me" blogs that sustain my book recommendation fix. Instagram is good for that, as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got some rain. We're in a bit of a dry spell right now and yesterday we hit 92 degrees! That never happens here, as you know, but today it's back down in the upper 50s. We could use some rain, and an overnight storm would be lovely, but we'll have to see. I may need to start dragging the hose around the yard again.
I'm glad your renovations are finished. I'll bet you're happy about that!
We celebrated my mom's 90th last week with family, and a big party in the neighborhood a couple of weeks ago. An amazing milestone! Now we're gearing up for a 5-week RV trip to Canada at the end of the month. Never a dull moment around here.
Les, we've gone through the changes in connecting over the internet haven't we? How many years now? Close to 25 or so? Anyway, glad you are still here and I will be as well as long as I can have breaks and come back to update as the mood strikes. Ha! Tell your Mom that I wish her a very Happy 90th! So wonderful that you guys got to have a nice celebration of that event. Wow - it's kind of funny having you say that you guys could 'use some rain' - that's kind of odd - ha! Hope you enjoy your trip to Canada! 5 weeks is quite a long while, but lots to see. Will you leave at the end of May and not be back until July? As I said above, we've got a couple of trips planned and are looking forward to them. Have a great week!
DeleteYep, somewhere around 25 years or so. Pretty amazing! Yes, we leave on May 29th and return on July 7th. We're traveling with another couple, which should be fun as long as we don't all get on each other's nerves. ;) Are you heading to Oregon this year?
DeleteSorry that we'll miss you this time! Hope nothing disrupts your plans this year. :)
DeleteGood to see a post here, Kay, and get some news from you. I haven't had as much energy to blog or read lately and not sure why. I find it hard to balance with other demands. But I do think I will continue blogging as long as I am reading, as Les in Oregon said. And I have been reading some great books lately.
ReplyDeleteTracy, glad you've been enjoying some great reading. I think we all need that. I suspect we will be both be around for a while to come. ;-)
DeleteHaven't checked in, in awhile. With Covid over, I seem to have less free time. Not sure why. So I haven't picked up my blog yet. I seem to dropping some extracurriculars that I picked up during Covid and concentrating on reading (which has really fallen off too) and cleaning out! Always glad to see a post from you.
ReplyDeleteNice to see a 'comment' from you too, Gayle. I think taking blogging breaks is a good thing for some of us. Others seem to just go along and always have posts. Different strokes. And concentrating on reading is always a good thing. LOL
DeleteI remember those days when blogging is a big thing; and the bookblogging community, too. I suppose younger generations today is more into Tiktok. Every time I see them with a phone, it seems they're watching Tiktok trends all the time. I hope bookblogging will continue or else where would we get all the recommendations? ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, Tiktok. I think the book stuff is known as 'Booktok'. I guess some of us will have to agree that blogging is more our speed. Ha!
DeleteI don't care if blogging is in or out; as long as I've got something to say, I'm going to say it, and-- if I'm lucky-- I'll still be blogging when it becomes fashionable again! :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan!
DeleteI will celebrate fifteen years of blogging next month. It's my favorite way to see what others are reading and doing. I will continue to blog as long as I enjoy it. I wish you blogged a little more often, Kay!
ReplyDeleteYes, as I shared, I do go through periods of not feeling the urge to blog and then go through times exactly the opposite. I'll be around for as long as it works for me - hopefully a long time.
DeleteHappy belated Mother's Day, Kay! My blog just turned 7, and I do find lately that I am posting a bit less, but that's because things have gotten busier in my personal life! I do still enjoy it, and enjoy reading other's posts. I have noticed that many bloggers I used to follow have stopped, so my reading list has gotten a lot smaller, but I do hope it doesn't all go away.
ReplyDeleteYes, your life has gotten a lot busier, Angela. Kids will do that - ha! I agree with your hope that many of us will continue to share and talk books.
