Four books coming out this summer that I'm looking forward to reading...

Do many of you remember that weekly event entitled 'Waiting On Wednesday'?  I don't think it's available any more except for bloggers who do their own weekly post.  Tina from Tina Says... still posts her picks each week and I always watch for the book she shares.  There may be more.  I used to share books through that as well, but I haven't done it for quite a while.  Anyway, I have several books being published this summer that I'm 'waiting on..'.  Here are four of them (and I reserve the right to share more in upcoming days - ha!).

The first two books are coming out on June 20th and Ruth Ware pens one and Sarah Stewart Taylor the second.  The second set of books will be published on July 11th and the authors are Linda Castillo and Carol Goodman.  Here's the scoop on all four:

Zero Days by Ruth Ware

Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband Gabe are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her horror, the police are closing in on their only suspect – her.

On the run and out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust and how far she’s prepared to go. Can she figure out the truth, before her pursuers find her?

International bestseller Ruth Ware returns with this adrenaline-fueled thriller about a woman in a race against time to clear her name and find her husband’s killer.

A Stolen Child by Sarah Stewart Taylor - #4 in the Maggie D'arcy series

After months of training, former Long Island homicide detective Maggie D’arcy is now officially a Garda. She’s finally settling into life in Ireland and so is her teenage daughter, Lilly. Maggie may not be a detective yet, but she’s happy with her community policing assignment in Dublin's Portobello neighborhood.  When she and her partner find former model and reality tv star Jade Elliott murdered—days after responding to a possible domestic violence disturbance at her apartment — they also discover Jade's toddler daughter missing. Amidst a nationwide manhunt, Maggie and her colleagues must look deep into Jade’s life—both personal and professional—to find a ruthless killer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An Evil Heart by Linda Castillo - #15 in the Kate Burkholder series

On a crisp autumn day in Painters Mill, Chief of Police Kate Burkholder responds to a disturbing call. An Amish man has been killed with a crossbow and abandoned on a dirt road. Aden Karn was only twenty years old. Who would commit such a heinous crime against a young man whose life was just beginning?

From an upstanding Amish family, Karn was well liked and looking forward to getting married. But as Kate delves into his past, she hears whispers about a darker side. What if Aden Karn wasn’t the wholesome young man everyone admired? Sensing an unspeakable secret no one will broach, Kate pursues every lead with a vengeance. All the while, her own wedding to Tomasetti draws near…

The case spirals out of control when an Amish woman comes forward with a horrific story that pits Kate against a dangerous and unexpected opponent. When the truth is uncovered, Kate comes face to face with the terrible consequences of a life lived in all the wrong places.

The Bones Of The Story by Carol Goodman

The twisty locked-room mystery from two-time Mary Higgins Clark Award–winning author Carol Goodman, about a group of former classmates trapped on their college campus—with a murderer among them.

It’s been twenty-five years since the shocking disappearance of a female student and the distinguished Creative Writing professor who died while searching for her. The Briarwood College community has never forgotten the double tragedy. Now, the college President is bringing together faculty, donors, and alumni to honor the victims from all those years ago.

On a cold December weekend after the fall semester has ended, guests gather on the vacant campus for the commemoratory event. But as a storm descends, people begin to depart, leaving a group of alumni who were the last ones taught by the esteemed professor. Recriminations and old rivalries flare as they recall the writing projects they shared as classmates, including chilling horror stories they each wrote about their greatest fears.

When an alumna dies in a shockingly similar way to the story she wrote, and then another succumbs to a similar fate, they realize someone has decided at long last to avenge the crimes of the past. Will the secret of what they did twenty-five years ago be revealed? Will any of them be alive at the end of the weekend to find out?

I think I've read almost all the books that each of these four authors have written.  They are each on my 'excited to see a new book' list.  Will you be trying any of these when they come out?  And do you have other authors with new books to come that I should check out?  Let me know!

  1. I am also eagerly awaiting the new Linda Castillo mystery, and the new one by Carol Goodman, too. I'm a fan of both of those authors. Anna Lee Huber has a new one coming out this summer that I'm looking forward to reading, too. :D

    1. Lark, thanks for sharing about the Anna Lee Huber book. I've known of her work, but I've not read her books as yet. Putting her name on my list. :-)

  2. These all sound good! I'm eager for a new book by Deborah Crombie, but I think it will be a while yet. Same with Louise Penny. I'm all caught up their series. I'm ready for #3 in Susan Hill's Simon Serrallier series and there are a dozen, so I have plenty to keep me busy. :)

    1. Les, yes, I think it will be a while for a new Crombie book. She's not a quick writer, but they are always good. I think the new Penny book won't come out until next year. Might have read that from her newsletter that comes out monthly. I am two behind on the Susan Hill series and will get to those at some point. Glad to have two to read there.

  3. I see Waiting on Wednesday every now and then still! ALl of these call to me but I'm really looking forward to the Sarah Stewart Taylor and I really should give Ruth Ware another try. I loved her first two books but then struggled with book 3 and haven't picked up anything by her again.

    1. Katherine, I was really thrilled to see a new Taylor book. So glad she is continuing telling us about Maggie D'arcy. I think that Ruth Ware's books, partly because they are standalones, are a bit difficult to predict as to themes, etc. I think I've read all her books for now, but I do have my favorites.

    1. Cath, I've not read every book that Carol Goodman has written, but I have read several. Think I likely wrote about most of them here on the blog. You could search and see what you find. ;-)

  5. I loved the Waiting on Wednesday meme when I first started blogging! Strange how it just stopped (at least officially) without an explanation. I'm glad other bloggers have continued with it on their own. I really enjoyed Zero Days! I also have the upcoming Carol Goodman book on my wishlist. I love a good locked-room mystery.

    1. I think the original person that did 'Waiting on Wednesday' stopped quite a while back and maybe someone took over and then that person stopped. Anyway, I think it's a good concept and lets us talk about upcoming books that others might not know about. Glad to hear that you liked Zero Days. Yes, I also love a good locked-room tale.

  6. I do appreciate you posting upcoming books for ideas...Why does The Bones of the Story plot sound familiar? Something we read in our book club. Do you notice that sometimes everyone writes the same kind of mystery/plot for awhile? hmmm

    1. Gayle, I think the plot does sound familiar. Yes, authors seem to go through periods where similar themes and situations repeat from book to book. I'm OK with that mostly until I get tired of whatever the theme is. LOL

  7. I used to participate in WoW but haven't seen it around in recent years. Your books all look good!

  8. I remember Waiting on Wednesday. Didn't do such memes for a long time; I miss them but right now I enjoy reading what others write. :) I've Zero Days on my pile so I'll get to it at some point. I'm so excited to hear that Carol Goodman will have a new book out soon so I'll keep a lookout.

  9. Tressa from Wishing Endings hosts Can't Wait Wednesday which she based on the original Waiting on Wednesday meme that's been defunct for awhile. I participate in it now and then.

I am always up for a Ruth Ware novel. Her new one sounds like another good one. I keep meaning to read something by Carol Goodman. I have read a few of her other books under her pseudonym Juliet Dark which I really liked. I haven't been reading too many crime fiction/thrillers as of late though. Occasionally something calls to me though.

I hope you have a good weekend and enjoy these when you read them!

    1. Wendy, thanks for reminding me about 'Can't Wait Wednesday'. I did know about that one, but it's been a long time since I participated. Carol Goodman writes well or that's been my experience. She has set some of her books at schools or a school will play a part. Always am interested in that theme. I haven't read any of her 'Juliet Dark' books. I'll have to check them out.

  12. I remember that you used to do 'Waiting On Wednesday' posts.

I haven't read any Ruth Ware books, but at the last book sale I bought The Woman in Cabin 10 to try.

I also have the first book in Sarah Stewart Taylor's series to try. I did read all the books in her first series.

After all of these years of reading your praise of the Kate Burkholder series, I am finally going to read Sworn to Silence, the first in the series. It is on my 20 Books of Summer list. I have always thought the series was too violent and tense for me.

  14. The Castillo series got to be too much for me, but the other three are favorite authors of mine. I've read all or most of their books. I already read and enjoyed A STOLEN CHILD. I'm reading and enjoying ZERO DAYS at the moment. I somehow hadn't realized Goodman had a new one coming out, so yay! I always like hers. I hope you enjoy all these!

So very wonderful to hear from you! You've been missed and thought about. Yes, I love discovering new series as well, though it's a little tough keeping up with too many of them. LOL

    1. Iliana, I read the Maggie D'arcy series last year and really liked it. This new one sounds good too! We've been enjoying more rain off and on and it's really different from 2022. I think the temps will be on the way up, but the moisture has been so wonderful!
