'Waiting on Wednesday' is an event where I feature an upcoming book that I am extra excited about. I used to do this in the past and am making it a priority to do again. Seriously, who among us doesn't have a book or two or twenty that we are excited about reading? Plus, it lets us 'spread the word' about authors and series that we personally enjoy.
The book I'm waiting on this week is one that I have seen on list after list in the blogging world. Seems like everyone is looking forward to trying it. I have read a couple of other books by Kate Quinn and discussed them with book groups. They were both historical fiction. Her new one seems to be more in the fantasy genre, but it sounds really good. Have you read books by this author and did you like them? Are you looking forward to trying this new one?
The Astral Library
by Kate Quinn
Publication Date: February 17th
From New York Times bestselling author Kate Quinn comes a gorgeously written fantastical adventure which poses the question: Have you ever wished you could live inside a book? Welcome to the Astral Library, where books are not just objects, but doors to new worlds, new lives, and new futures.
Alexandria “Alix” Watson has learned one lesson from her barren childhood in the foster-care system: unlike people, books will never let you down. Working three dead-end jobs to make ends meet and knowing college is a pipe dream, Alix takes nightly refuge in the high-vaulted reading room at the Boston Public Library, escaping into her favorite fantasy novels and dreaming of far-off lands. Until the day she stumbles through a hidden door and meets the Librarian: the ageless, acerbic guardian of a hidden library where the desperate and the lost escape to new lives...inside their favorite books.
The Librarian takes a dazzled Alix under her wing, but before she can escape into the pages of her new life, a shadowy enemy emerges to threaten everyone the Astral Library has ever helped protect. Aided by a dashing costume-shop owner, Alix and the Librarian flee through the Regency drawing rooms of Jane Austen to the back alleys of Sherlock Holmes and the champagne-soaked parties of The Great Gatsby as danger draws inexorably closer. But who does their enemy really wish to destroy—Alix, the Librarian, or the Library itself?

I've only read one of Quinn's books and it was historical fiction. This sounds quite different so I checked GR. Trusted friends are very enthusiastic about it!

Mary, that had been what I had heard too. Different for Quinn, but definitely one to try.
DeleteI've enjoyed her historical fiction books - it's interesting to see her branching out!
ReplyDeleteAngela, it is, right? Looking forward to seeing how the story goes.
DeleteI'm so intrigued by this one. I've enjoyed what I've read by Quinn and this looks so interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt does and I'm on board with trying it for sure. Thanks for coming by, Katherine!
DeleteI've only read The Rose Code, but I have The Briar Club on my top shelf to read this year. I'm not a big fan of fantasy, so I'll wait to read a few reviews of this new one before grabbing a copy.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read The Briar Club, but I have read The Rose Code and also The Alice Network. We'll see how this one goes because it does indeed contain a bit of fantasy.
DeleteThis sounds interesting. Adding to my mental TBR. lol
ReplyDeleteI want to at least try it. We enjoyed other books by her, didn't we?
DeleteI hope this one turns out to be as good as it sounds.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Lark!
DeleteMy comment is exactly the same as what Les said above! I enjoyed The Rose Code and have The Briar Club near the top of my tbr. I'm not a fantasy reader and didn't know that her new book fit that category. Think I'll wait and see what the reviews look like.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan for you. I'm really curious about this story and we'll see how the author manages it.
DeleteAh, we are waiting for this one together!
ReplyDeleteHope we both are able to read and enjoy it!
DeleteI'm glad you highlighted this one - as I wasn't sure what it was about. I have read 2 of her novels: The Rose Code and The Alice Network. I'm not too into fantasy .... but I'm still a bit curious about The Briar Club. I might read that one sometime. Hope you like this one.
ReplyDeleteI've read the two you mentioned as well and liked them very much. We'll see how this Astral Library goes. I still want to read The Briar Club. Hopefully, this year at some point. Thanks for stopping by, Susan!
