'Waiting on Wednesday' is an event where I feature an upcoming book that I am extra excited about. I used to do this in the past and am making it a priority to do again. Seriously, who among us doesn't have a book or two or twenty that we are excited about reading? Plus, it lets us 'spread the word' about authors and series that we personally enjoy.
This week's 'Waiting on...' book is by an author that I have enjoyed for years. Dana Stabenow has written over 20 books in her Kate Shugak series, set in Alaska. She has also written other mystery series and also books in other genres. Dana is from Alaska, but I believe she has spent part of most years in Arizona lately. Her new book is the historical time period of the Old West. I think it sounds like one I definitely want to try. What do you think? Interested??
The Harvey Girl
Publication Date: March 3rd
From the award-winning author of the Kate Shugak Mysteries, a thrilling new detective series set during America's wild boom time and frontier expansion of the nineteenth century.
WELCOME TO THE GILDED AGE. WHERE NOT EVERYTHING GLITTERS.
1890: the Gilded Age, a period of financial success and political corruption. The United States is growing at a breathless rate, with six new states recently added to the Union.
With expansion comes an influx of crime. Outlaw gangs hold sway on the frontier and heists and robberies are commonplace. A lot of businesses shrug off these depredations as the cost of success. Those who don't hire the Pinkerton Detective Agency to get their money back.
The Pinkertons' newest operative is twenty-two-year-old Clare Wright. Highly educated, skilled with disguises, and handy enough in a fight, Clare's future in the agency seems bright. But when she's introduced to Fred Harvey, she finds herself thrown right into the heady mix of frontier life.
Harvey's Arizona hotel has been robbed and Clare is the perfect recruit to solve this mystery. Clare must infiltrate high society and win the confidence of killers like Butch Cassidy as she seeks the truth.

I used to love the Kate Shugak mysteries but haven't read one in way too long. I need to get back to that series and pick this on eup It looks really good!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Kate Shugak books. I need to go back and look as well. Don't think I've read all of those. And, yes, want to read this one.
DeleteI am really looking forward to this book and included it in a Historical Fiction for 2026 post. I am a bit peeved, however, that I requested my library purchase it and got a form response that they always buy books by this author. Well, then, why isn't it on order yet?? But I shouldn't complain because they do purchase most of the books I request.
ReplyDeleteInteresting...yes, the libraries I'm familiar with do usually have certain authors that they 'always' buy from. Wonder if they have her books coded to automatically order the Kate Shugak books. Anyway, hope they will get it for you.
DeleteYes to this one! I've always found the Harvey Girls so fascinating. I even love that Judy Garland movie about becoming a Harvey Girl.
ReplyDeleteOh, now I don't remember a Judy Garland movie about Harvey Girls. Need to research that! Ha!
DeleteIt's a musical called...(drumroll, please)... The Harvey Girls. It's a little silly, but I think it's very fun. :D
DeleteOK, that is funny - thanks for the info, Lark!
DeleteIt will be interesting to see what you think about this book. I don't think I am familiar with the history of the Harvey Girls!
ReplyDeleteWe're always learning things, right? Thanks for always coming by and commenting, Deb!
DeleteI duplicate Deb's comment .... I'm not sure I know about the Harvey Girls ... but I like frontier-set novels so heck yeah! I hope it's good.
ReplyDeleteI do too! We'll see when I'm able to get it and also read it. At some point. :-)
DeleteI love books set in the Gilded Age and this seems like it will add a new twist to that!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Maybe you should try this one when it comes out, Angela - ha!
DeleteI am interested in this book. I think both the time period and the setting would be interesting. We have watched The Harvey Girls musical with Judy Garland many times.
ReplyDeleteHope you like it if you try it at some point, Tracy. I guess I've never watched that Judy Garland movie or I don't remember it if I have.
