Back from NM with some nice 'walking' pictures...

Hello everyone!  We are back from our recent trip out to New Mexico - the Ruidoso area - and I have a few more pictures to share from my lovely, cool walks out in the mountains.  As seems to be the usual way of things these days, our plans for the trip had to be adjusted, but we did manage to get there and my husband had a great time playing in a golf tournament.  What was adjusted?  Well, we had planned to fly out there (using some of our airline credits from previous postponed trips to Oregon) and our flight was supposed to leave at about 7:30 a.m.  At around 3:00 a.m. that morning we were awakened by a text to my husband's phone saying that our flight had been cancelled.  Sigh.  Since he had already paid for the golf tournament and also had a partner that lives in Ruidoso, we had to jump in the car and drive out there.  We do normally make that journey by car - it's about 9-1/2 hours - but we weren't expecting it.  Ah well.  We made it and here's some pictures of one of my favorite parts of the world.  The first picture is from the front porch deck of the place where we stayed and the others are from my walks.

We're back in Kerrville now, but will be going to Austin later this week for a few days.  My husband's company was supposed to start their new hybrid thing (2 days in office, 3 days work-from-home) in September, but that is likely to be put off for a while.  We'll see how it goes.  A lesson in how to be flexible and it's about to drive this 'ducks in a row' and 'all things planned ahead' person (ME!) batty.  More walks are needed!  Ha!  One day I'll talk about reading, etc.  Enjoy the mountains (virtually)!

Even the weeds are pretty right now out in Ruidoso.
They have had huge amounts of rain (for them).

  2. Enjoyed the pictures. Denis and I have Phoenix Cabin Fever so badly that I've been looking at places like Ruidoso where we could rent a place for a week. As my mother would say, just to "blow the stink off." ;-)

    1. I understand that completely. I get such a sense of peace from just walking and observing these mountains or from just sitting and observing them.

  4. Seems like it's all about flexibility these days, but I'm a planner like you. Learning to "go with flow" is my aim lately. Glad you still got to Ruidoso... don't know when we'll fly again. Enjoy your walks...gorgeous mountain photos!

    1. Yes, the flying thing...who knows when? All I know is that those credits won't go nearly as far when we actually get to use them. Sigh. Thanks for the kind words about the photos.

  5. Beautiful scenery! Flight cancellations are a big problem...and so are "unruly" passengers. We were thinking of flying to CO to see our daughter, but things are again in flux.

    1. Cancellations I guess I can understand. The 'unruly' thing - seriously weird and stupid. Hope you get to see your daughter at some point.

  6. I am really nervous about flights being cancelled right now. The big college move in is next week. Cross your fingers all goes well.

I am glad you were still able to get to your destination though. Talk about a last minute switch.

  7. Oh Kay such lovely pics, happy you shared them. I am also a planner and have tried being less uptight when things don't go as planned but, it is not easy. Glad your drive worked out and then you could relax.

    1. No, it's not easy to change how one approaches more of life than one realized - ha! I'm working on it.

  8. How lovely to walk in the mountains where it's cool. We're currently in Northern CA and it's blistering hot. I walked to the RV park store to get a couple of spices that I'd forgotten to pack (and a small container of strawberry ice cream!) and just about died from the heat. It was all of maybe 1/8th of a mile. ;) I'm sorry your flight was cancelled (I hear that's happening a lot these days), but that you were able to get there for the golf tourney. Yes, we all need to be a little flexible right now, don't we? We're driving to TN in a few weeks and I know I'll have to remember to go with the flow and not over-plan.

Wonderful photos! I used my "Seek" app and learned that your "weed" is actually a plant called a Mullein (also known as Verbascum). It's an herb that can be used for all sorts of cold-type symptoms.

    1. Les, thanks for figuring out about my 'weed'. I just know that those plants are all over the place in NM and good to know that they do have uses. I hope all goes well with your trip to see your girl.

    1. I love the views! And, yes, I did enjoy the trip. 'Not going as you plan' seems to be the new way of life - whether we want it to be or not. LOL

  10. So wonderful you were able to turn the cancelled flight into a fun road trip. What beautiful pictures! My husband's company started the hybrid work schedule at the beginning of August. It lasted exactly one day and they've rolled it back for the foreseeable future.
