Joining the TBR Triple Dog Dare....and I will succeed!!

Have I said before that I'm not really into challenges?  Well, if I haven't let me just say - I'm not really into challenges.  I'm way too moody in my reading.  I do have a book group that I'm part of and reading those books is about as far as I can go.  This is why I haven't joined in the various lovely challenges that are encouraging the participants to 'read their own books' or 'clear out their e-reader' or whatever.

I have joined this year's TBR Triple Dog Dare.  James at James Reads Books is the leader and he says this is the last one.  About time I joined in.  It's not a challenge - it's a dare.  To read only books that were already in your stacks as of December 31, 2015.  This dare continues until the end of March.

The only exceptions to the 'rules' that I'll have is if I need to acquire a book for my mystery book group or if I decide to join in on another book group and the same thing happens.  Also, I am attending the Left Coast Crime mystery conference at the end of February.  Books will be acquired there.  I can guarantee it.

That's it.  My pledge - only my current books until the end of March.  We'll see if I can manage that.  If I succeed (I'll succeed - yes, I will!), then I might extend my personal 'dare'.

  1. Good luck with this, Kay. It's a challenging one that I would struggle with as I do so enjoy going to the library. I'm sure you'll do it though.

    1. I'm really trying to stay away from the library. I actually didn't read any library books last year. I was amazed. All were mine. This is more for me to curb my acquisitions.

  2. You can do it! Have fun with the challenge.

    1. I think I'll do OK with it. I know the 'rules' don't say 'no buying', but I'm going to take it that way - mostly anyway.

  3. Good luck with your 'dare'. I don't usually join challenges. It's too much for me to keep track of.

    1. Well, this one won't be anything to track because, for me, it will be more 'don't buy' and 'don't check out'. Plus, I always list how I read the book anyway - Kindle or Personal Copy.

  4. Good luck this sounds like a terrifying challenge (although one I should probably do)

    1. Mainly just to rein in my buying. I have to do that periodically. :-)

  5. This is probably one I should do. I was just looking at the books on my shelf...and in boxes because I'm out of shelf space. Let's just say that in the event of a natural disaster, I have enough reading material to stay holed up for a couple of years!

    1. Oh, me too. My shelves are full and my Kindle number is so high, well, it's scary. We'll see how I fare.

  6. You'll post about the Left Coast Crime Conference right? I want to know more! I really should do this because my stacks of books are taking over but I did a no challenges no exceptions rule for this year. I am hoping to seriously minimize the number of books I bring in. I can't wait to see what you read and how you do!

    1. I'll definitely share some thoughts after the conference. Probably way too many. LOL

  8. I'm just like you - WAY too moody for challenges, and just commit to my one book club book a month. I like the idea of a dare! Good luck with it (I know I would need it!).

    1. I'm going to try and I think I'll do OK. I confess that I indulged in way too many new books last year. So, there are lots to choose from.

  9. You can do it! I tend to join a lot of challenges and not do so great but ah it's just all in fun. You'll have to keep us posted on your progress!

  10. :) Go for it! This challenge doesn't work as well for me. I don't let them sit terribly long, if I can't generate the interest to read them--they get donated if they are tangible books and deleted if ebooks. Now my list of books I want to read is a gigantic challenge!

    1. Thanks, Jenclair! Yes, my eyes are always bigger than my reading capacity. Then I get overrun. I think I'll do OK. I'm just trying to ignore the 'deals'.

  11. This is a serious dare, but I would lose the bet. I've already borrowed books from the library! Happy New Year!

  12. You're going to the Left Coast Crime Conference?! Oh, you definitely have to share all the details with us. I've always wanted to go.

I admit I'm more intimidated by the Dare than I am any challenges. I do hope to stick to it, however. So far so good. :-) Good luck to you as well!

    1. I am going to Left Coast. It's in Phoenix this year and that was easy for us to plan for. Can't wait and am a little nervous as well.

  13. Good luck and have fun, Kay! Yes, you'll have to share with us about the Left Coast Crime Conference. And of course the books you'll be acquiring there. :-)

  14. Good luck and have fun! I participated in this one a few years ago, and it is a great way to reduce the number of books on your shelves. Enjoy!

    1. I hope it will make a dent in my shelves. I've been a little too free with my book buying in the last year. Sometimes I have to put the brakes on for a while. LOL

  15. Gosh, I always used to read about the mystery conferences when I was on the DL list. I can't believe you are really going! I will love reading about it here!

    1. I'm really excited about it and a bit nervous too. It's in Phoenix, so it was quite easy to convince the hubby. He'll golf and I'll wallow in mysteries. And see a couple of blogging friends.

  16. I'm taking this dare, too, and feeling very positive about it... so far. I'd even like to try to extend it past March and on into the summer months. Wonder what I'll do with all those bare shelves once I'm finished, though? :)

    1. Hmmm...dare I say, fill them up again? I won't say with what. LOL

And I've thought about continuing on as well. We'll see how it goes.
