RIP XVI - Reader's Imbibing Peril - 2021

It's time for this year's RIP XVI-Reader's Imbibing Peril Challenge!  I participate in very few challenges, but RIP is one that's I've done in the past.  As my goal of reading more, I think I'll take part this year and will use this post for updates.  It will be in my sidebar and I'll also mention RIP when I read and talk about any book that would work for the challenge.

I'm going to cheat and 'copy' what Diane said here on her blog, Bibliophile By the Sea:

'To join Readers Imbibing Peril just read as many mystery, suspense, thriller, horror, dark fantasy, supernatural, or Gothic books as you want between  September 1 – October 31st, and post about them on your blog, Instagram, or Twitter.  You can use #RIPXVI or tag @PERILREADERS to connect with other participants.'

I'll keep a running list below.  Join in if you'd like and I hope we all have fun with the challenge this fall.  We certainly need some fun, right?

1. Fallen by Linda Castillo

  4. I'm in, as well. I love this very doable challenge and it gets you in the mood for fall. My post will be up on Thursday but no formal list of books or movies for me. I have one book that I hope to get to for sure and I have been watching some scary stuff on TV. Fun!

    1. I'm starting with Linda Castillo's Fallen. And listening to The Vanishing Season. Both are good so far.

    1. I'm looking for a good Gothic suggestion. Hope I run across one of those. I love Gothic books at this time of year.

  7. I used to participate in RIP all the time, but I haven't done so in years. Maybe I should do it again. It's a fun challenge. I'll be interested to see which reads you choose for it.

    1. You should do it, Susan. Not like it would be difficult with the assortment of mysteries that you pick up. LOL

  8. This sounds like a good way to motivate your reading goals. I had considered this challenge but after just finishing 20 Books of Summer, I want to read more randomly for a while. I don't know how well that will work.

    1. Tracy, you could participate just by using your short story reading. Most of those are mysteries, right?

    2. Maybe I will, Kay. Although I am usually behind in reviewing books, I could probably get quite a few mystery novels and short stories in just as part of my normal reading. I like that you highlighted the post in your sidebar so that we can follow your progress.

  9. I'm pretty sure almost everyone is joining in this challenge except me. I'm too much of a chicken to even read mysteries! But I do enjoy seeing so many people having so much fun reading.

    1. Deb, I think that each of us has our own 'comfort' zone and mine are spooky/mystery/Gothic. Yours are other areas and that is perfectly all right. And, yes, I love seeing how many enjoy this challenge.

  11. Have fun, Kay! This is a perfect challenge for us because it's what we usually read anyway, lol.

  12. Have fun, Kay! I'll be joining in unofficially again this year. I have a stack of 10 mysteries & thrillers ready to go and will share my post with those selections in the coming week.

  13. Have a great time with the challenge, Kay! So glad to see you are joining too.

  14. I'll be doing this in October. A book in the horror or magical realism category for 31 days straight will have me ready for Halloween :)
