This is a weekly event that highlights a book we can't wait to be published. It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
Taylor Stevens, author of the Vanessa Michael Munroe series, is an interesting person. She was raised in an apocalyptic cult and spent many years trying to get free from that lifestyle. Her protagonist was also raised in that manner. Vanessa Michael Munroe's story begins in The Informationist, a book that won a Barry Award for Best First Novel and was nominated for several other Best First awards. This author lives in my part of the world, and I have meant to read this series for quite some time. My book for this week, the 5th in the series:
Publication Date: June 30th
Vanessa Michael Munroe, chameleon and information hunter, has a reputation for getting things done: dangerous and not quite legal things that have taken her undercover into some of the world’s deadliest places. Still healing from a Somali hijacking gone wrong and a brutal attack that left her near death, Munroe joins her lover, Miles Bradford, in Japan where he’s working as a security consultant protecting high-value technology from industrial espionage. In the domesticity of their routine she finds long sought-after peace—until Bradford is arrested for murder, and the same interests who targeted him come after her, too.
Searching for answers and fighting to stay alive, Munroe will soon discover how far she’ll go to save Bradford from spending the next twenty years in locked-up isolation; how many laws she’ll break when the truth seems worse than his lies; and who to trust and who she must kill. Because she’s a strategist and hunter with a predator’s instincts, and the man she loves has just stabbed her in the back.
Wow it sounds like if the author wrote an autobiography, it would be interesting too.

I know. I thought of that too.
DeleteYou've introduced me to another great-sounding series that I want to start. Book #1 is going on my list right now.

DeleteI want that too, even though I haven't read her other books! lol
ReplyDeleteGood to know, Kathy!
DeleteAnother book and author I haven't read. I like that she has some experience with what her character has been through. This sounds interesting. I hope you try a book by her soon and review it!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think there is probably a lot of validity to the stories she writes in this series. I really need to read book #1.
DeleteThanks for sharing this. The series is new to me, and this book looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Monica!

Thanks for coming by, Krystianna!
DeleteI never heard of this one but it sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI thought so, Yvonne. Thanks for coming by!
DeleteI really enjoyed The Informationist - I can't believe there are already five books in the series! I read the second book, too, but haven't read any of the later ones. This one looks good.
ReplyDeleteAh, good to know that you enjoyed the first book. I'll get to it this summer or fall, I suspect.
DeleteI read a long newspaper article about Taylor Stevens and was just horrified about what she went through (for anyone interested, just google her name and look for the info). I can see how she could write such a series with a similar protagonist, who is as strong as she is (because without that mental, physical and emotional strength Stevens could never free herself from the trappings of the cult).
ReplyDeleteI actually read about 25% of The Informationist a few years back, then returned it to the library and didn't follow up on it. Are you going to read The Mask before the other books in the series? I wonder if the enjoyment will hold up for you if you do. Please share your thoughts afterwards.
No, I won't read it before the others. I still like to read in order, if I can. I keep thinking I'll get over that 'quirk', but don't seem to be able to. Interesting that you've read about Taylor Stevens.
DeleteI saw this on Penguin's First to Read site. I've never read anything by Taylor Stevens, but I'm glad to know from your post that she's won quite a few "first" awards. I think I have The Informationist somewhere on my shelf...I should look for it!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have the first book here too, I think. I need to check and see and then put it in my reading rotation.
DeleteStarted it yesterday!!
ReplyDeleteGreat. Hope it's good!
