Best laid plans...

I intended to have already shared my 'best of 2016' list.  I had also planned to talk about my 2016 'one word' and reveal my 2017 'one word'.  However, life and the flu had other plans.  My husband and I both have been battling the flu since last Tuesday.  The real flu.  We are better and are now fever free, but still coughing and sleep deprived.  No energy at all.  Sadly, the picture above is not really all that far from how I look, especially the hair.

The goal for today is...I have no idea.  Ha!  I'm still annoyed because I took a flu shot in early November.  Guess the strains do indeed mutate or whatever.  We were trying to remember the last time we had the actual flu and if there had ever been a time when were both came down with it at almost the same time.  Our daughter thinks it was maybe in the mid '90's.  She said she was about 12.  And she remembers that it was at Christmas time and that it was an awful Christmas (for her - the non-sick one - not us, the sickies!).  All I know is that I'm too old for this.  LOL

Once I can focus better, watch for my upcoming 'Best of 2016' and 'One Word'.  My mystery group meets this Wednesday.  I'll decide tomorrow if I feel I might be able to attend.  We're discussing Kate Morton's THE LAKE HOUSE.  I've been enjoying reading all the end-of-year posts by everyone, but commenting is just a little beyond me right now.

Now, I'm off to drink more hot tea and maybe, just maybe, change the sheets on my bed.  Task for the day.  Welcome 2017!!

  1. Oh no! I've had the flu one time and it was absolutely miserable but my husband was healthy so he could keep the house running and shove food at me periodically. I can't imagine both of us being down! Drink some tea and get some rest and then come back and tell us your 2017 word!

  5. I hope you feel better soon, Kay. I am sorry you are sick. I am battling a cold--or maybe it's just bad allergies. It's hard to tell. I just know I am tired of having a running and stuffy nose. :-(

I will be posting my one word later as well. I just wasn't up to it when putting together today's post. Feel better and take care of yourself!

  7. Oh no, Kay! I hope you and hubby bounce back quickly! I feel so badly for you. This is the first year I've missed my flu shot (and my daughter works in a doctor's office so no excuse, she gave my husband his last week. The only *other* time I missed out on it was two years ago, and I got the really bad strain, sigh...

Whenever you feel up to posting about your "best of" we're hear, listening. Best wishes sent your way!

  9. I hope you both feel better soon, Kay! My sister and parents have the flu now, too, and they all got the shot. It must be a different strain than what the vaccine-makers planned on. My husband is sick today and I sure hope he's got something else. We'll know by tomorrow...

  14. Oh geez, feel better soon. How awful for you both.
I got flu shots for about 5 years in a row and the last 3 years I stopped when I decided I didn't want to inject weird stuff into my body and just take my chances. So far so good.

  16. I have never found the flu shot to be effective in preventing flu; in fact, I think it gives one a nice dose of the disease! That said, I, too, have had the flu for most of November. At least I escaped it for Christmas. I hope that you are nicely recovering, at least you can stay in and read without too much guilt. ;) Blessings on your new year!

I've heard a lot of good reviews about The Lake House so that'd be on my wishlist this year.

  20. So sorry to hear you're sick! This happened to my husband just after the holidays a few years ago and it was AWFUL, I can totally relate to that picture. I hope you're both on the mend soon!

  21. I hope you are both feeling better! Everyone here was sick over the whole Christmas break. The two boys are almost back to normal while I batter what is most likely a sinus infection :( Healing prayers for both of us!

  22. I'm so sorry you two were sick! I hope you're feeling a little bit better now. Rod is sounding sniffly this morning and I hope he's not coming down with something. He had a flu shot a few years ago and got sick the following day. They say that can't happen, but it did! He had a shot this year, so hopefully it will work this time around. I've never had the shot and have only had the flu once that I can recall. Rod and I both were miserably sick with it back in the late 80s. My mom had to drive down from Laguna Beach to pick up our daughter since neither of us could manage to take care of her, we were so sick. She was probably 3 at the time.

    Feel better soon!
