Waiting on Wednesday - The Day of the Dead

I'm posting a 'soon to be released' book on Wednesdays.  These will always be books that I am particularly looking forward to.  I'll be linking up to 'Can't-Wait Wednesday' hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings and plan to take part in this each week.

I am beyond excited about the book I'm featuring this week.  I love the Frieda Klein mystery series, written by husband/wife writing team calling themselves Nicci French.  Each of the previous books had a day of the week in the title - Monday-Sunday.  Many thought that the Sunday book would be the last.  No, this 8th book is supposed to be the last and it will conclude the story of Frieda and her nemesis/stalker.  This week I can't wait for:

Publication Date:  July 24th

A decade ago, psychologist Frieda Klein was sucked into the orbit of Dean Reeve -- a killer able to impersonate almost anyone, a man who can disappear without a trace, a psychopath obsessed with Frieda herself.

In the years since, Frieda has worked with -- and sometimes against -- the London police in solving their most baffling cases. But now she's in hiding, driven to isolation by Reeve. When a series of murders announces his return, Frieda must emerge from the shadows to confront her nemesis. And it's a showdown she might not survive.

This gripping cat-and-mouse thriller pits one of the most fascinating characters in contemporary fiction against an enemy like none other. Smart, sophisticated, and spellbinding, it's a novel to leave you breathless.

  1. This sounds like a pretty good thriller, and a hopefully good capstone to the series!

  2. Great choice and I have this on my wishlist to buy as soon as it is released - I can't wait to see how the authors wrap everything up!

  3. You know, I keep seeing this series about, but I haven't yet picked it up. I think it's because it's so far ahead and I don't want to go back to the beginning of the series. But I really do like the sound of this -- is there a book you'd think I could start with that isn't the beginning?

    1. I'm pretty much a 'read the series from the beginning' person, Verushka. It sets the tone and introduces the characters. Maybe read Blue Monday - the first book - and then see what you think.

  6. I've not read her but I know tons of people love this author and series. I'm sure this one will be just as good as her others as she seems to be a pretty consistent writer. Hope you love it!

  13. The final book in a series always leaves me melancholy. I haven't read this author before but she has been on my list for years.

    1. Yes, I agree. I like when we know the 'final' answers, but then you won't get to spend time with those characters again. Sigh.

  14. I am so out of it. I opened your page and the words "cat-and-mouse" and then read about the book and wondered what the cat and mouse had to do with it. LOL I haven't read anything by Nicci French. This series sounds right up my alley though.

    1. Wendy, you are so funny! I had to go back up and read where it said 'cat and mouse' - couldn't imagine. I think you would like this series. If you get a chance to read it sometime.

    1. They wrote standalone books prior to this series. I haven't read them, but I suspect there will be other books by them and maybe even another series.

  20. Classic cat and mouse thrillers are always great. I like that this is a long standing nemesis, and now you get the conclusion! I hope it's satisfying.

    1. Oh, believe me, the nemesis is crazy weird. I'll be glad to see how her 'battle' with him sorts itself out.

  21. This sounds great. I do love a good cat and mouse thriller. I've been enjoying Meg Gardiner's UNSUB series for the same reason.

  27. I've heard of her, but haven't read any of her books. If this series is only 8 book in all, I think I can handle it. I think I subconsciously avoid the ones that have more than a dozen or so because I can never keep up!

    1. I know exactly what you mean. I think next week's 'Top 10 Tuesday' will be exactly that topic for me. Well loved and noted mystery series that I haven't begun yet - many have over 20 books. I may not ever get to them. This one is worth your time. Frieda Klein is quite unique.

  28. I've read some of French's books but none in this series. I've heard this is a really good one so I should get my hands on the first book (not sure if I have it or not!)

  30. I read one Nicci French book, and it was years ago! I think it was Killing Me Softly, but it's hard to tell with all the cover changes. I do remember enjoying it.

I hope you love this one! :)
