Waiting on Wednesday - The Red Hunter

This is a weekly event that highlights a book we can't wait to be published.  It is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.  I'm not sure that Jill is still blogging, but we'll link to her blog anyway.

I love Lisa Unger's books, especially the ones set in upstate New York in The Hollows.  I'm not sure this one, a standalone, is set in that location, but the autumn red leaves on the cover make me wonder.  This week, I'm waiting on:

Publication Date:  April 25th

Claudia Bishop’s perfect life fell apart when the aftermath of a brutal assault left her with a crumbling marriage, a newborn daughter, and a constant sense of anxiety about the world around her. Now, looking for a fresh start with a home restoration project and growing blog, Claudia takes on a crumbling old house—one that unbeknownst to her has an ugly history and may hide long buried secrets.

For Zoey Drake the defining moment of her childhood was the horrific home invasion murder of her parents. Years later, she has embraced the rage that fuels her. Training in the martial arts has made her strong and ready to face the demons from the past—and within.

Strangers to each other, and walking very different paths in the wake of trauma, these two women are on a collision course—because Zoey’s past nightmare and Claudia’s dreams for her future take place in the very same house. As Zoey seeks justice, and Claudia seeks peace, both will confront the monsters at the door that are the most frightening of all.

  1. I'm always intrigued by mysteries set in houses with tragic/interesting histories. I've never read anything by Unger -- I may just start with this one.

    1. May I also suggest the first Hollows book - it's several years old - FRAGILE. The Hollows books are loosely connected - not a true series. Can be read out of order.

  2. I've only read two books by Unger, one I really liked (In the Blood), the other not so much, but I think it was one of her earlier books. This one sounds interesting!

    1. I'm always excited about a new book by this author. She just has a way of keeping me engaged in the story. And her tinges of 'supernatural' are interesting. Very much a 'is it or isn't it'. Like Jennifer McMahon.

  4. I've read all Ms. Unger's adult suspense books in her various series, so yes, I'd continue on her name alone. Granted some are better than others, but all are at least worthwhile to me :)

    1. That sums it up pretty well for me too. I still have a couple that I haven't read, but intend to.

  5. I like Lisa Unger's books...I'm going to have to look this one up (as if my TBR pile(s) is getting any smaller?!). I wish Jill still hosted this every week.

    1. Yes, I'm sad she's not doing it any more. Although I'm going to continue on with it each Wednesday. I like highlighting a few upcoming books.

  8. I have never read a single book by Unger. I feel like she is an author I would like too. Perhaps I need to remedy this one day.

    1. She definitely has her own style. It's maybe not for everyone, but I like almost all she writes. You might try IN THE BLOOD. It was quite something.
