More pictures from my walks lately...and my haircut that won't happen...

Hello book friends!  I thought I would share a few more pictures that I've taken this week on my solitary walks.  I'll save the 'best' for last.

Beautiful colors here and so full of blossoms!

More wildflowers with some purple sage plants behind.  The purple sage are not in bloom as yet, but they will be.

I think this looks hopeful - you can see the blossom buds that are on this cactus.  Blooms will be coming and they are surprisingly beautiful.

Told you that I saved the 'best' for last.  Can you see this racer snake that was in my front yard?  My hubby actually took the picture.  I ran inside and told him there was a snake outside and he quickly came and assured me that it was not poisonous.  We found a snake skin in that area a couple of years ago that was about 5 ft long.  My hubby surmised that it might be from this same snake.  Just a reminder to keep my eyes open on my walks.  The snakes are among us.

------------------------------------------------

OK, I know that in the grander scheme of things the fact that my monthly haircut won't happen is not earth shattering.  However....I have short hair.  I like it to be like I like it to be.  I don't color or highlight it and it's mostly gray now.  I get it cut and trimmed on a fairly regular 4-week schedule.  Of course, my next appointment was scheduled for yesterday.  And my hairstylist is not cutting hair right now.  As is wise and prudent and necessary.  She called me earlier this week and said she was closing her shop right now and, as she had been planning a move to another location, wouldn't be open for several weeks to come - regardless of when we're all circulating in the world again.  She said she was nervous that some of her clients would decide to color and highlight themselves and she'd have a big mess on her hands later.  She also said - don't cut your hair.  I promised I wouldn't (it would be very bad if I did), but I did ask if it was OK if I shaved my head.  Ha!  She said to 'remain shaggy'!  We'll see how it goes.

  1. As always, thanks for the beautiful pictures! Although, I could have done without the snake one! Haha!

  2. Sorry about your haircut that didn't happen. I know it's a little thing in the grand scheme of things, but sometimes it's the little things that matter most on any given day. :D

    1. Well, those little things are sometimes the part that annoys me the most. LOL

  3. What beautiful flowers though I would have given the snake a lot of space! I'd prefer nonpoisonous snakes to rodents but I'd still rather not see them! My hair cut is cancelled for the foreseeable future so I see a lot of ponytails in my future!

    1. Ponytails would be fine. I guess I'll just be shaggy. And I can't abide rodents - not at all. LOL

  4. We saw a snake in our yard, and my son's yard who lives next door, last week and have seen it a couple of times since. It seems to be going from our house to his.

I didn't start getting my hair cut until a month or so ago and it's getting too long and I can't go get it cut. It's bothering me so much I don't know how I stood it all those years.

I pray you and your family stays safe and healthy!

    1. Thanks for your good thoughts, Vicki. So, you guys have a 'pet' snake too. Ha!

  5. Thanks for the lovely nature photos. I hope to have some photos from my yard sometime soon.

I sympathize about the haircut. We are due for haircuts next week (my husband and I go to the same stylist and always together) and I am sure it will not happen. My haircut is such that I don't know how it will look without a trim. On the positive side, depending on how long this all goes on, I may get to try longer hair again.

    1. Yes, I may have to 'try' longer hair. Can't even imagine what it will look like.

  6. That's a big snake! The biggest I've ever seen was in the US, I think North Carolina... a black one crossed the road in front of us as we came down a hill. It was very much an 'Oh' moment.

I had my hair cut a couple of weeks ago so am not due now until the beginning of May. I doubt the apt. will happen so I'll trim my fringe as I can't stand my hair in my eyes. Otherwise I'll leave it alone. Like you I don't colour so no problem there. As a teenager I was always cutting my own hair, also used to cut my mum's and grandma's, these days I just cut Hubby's. I think I probably missed my vocation. LOL

    1. Too bad I can't have you give me a trim, Cath. A little too far though, right?

  7. Such lovely photos. I wish I had gotten a good one of my tree when it was full of its purple plums a couple weeks ago, but it was the farthest thing on my mind. My husband said he might shave his head if his gets too long for comfort. I'm loving my longer hair. This whole mess came along just as I was about to go in and get mine dyed again, but I was putting it off because I really like the length and wanted to enjoy it a little longer before I got a trim. Now I have the long hair I want, but my roots aren't the color I prefer. LOL I could dye it myself, but I would prefer not to. Your hair stylist's fear that her clients will do so has validated my decision not to. I hope you continue to stay well and safe, Kay.

    1. I bet a picture of your purple plum tree would have been lovely, Wendy. Good luck with being patient regarding your hair color. You guys take care!

  8. Such lovely pictures Kay. Your "hair" story is a real life problem for all of us, I suspect. I really think I will finally stop coloring my hair. I'm okay with now getting a haircut for a while as I have a loner bob style. I can almost pull it all back now which will be good for warmer weather. Enjoy your Sunday Kay and stay safe.

    1. I stopped with the color several years ago, Diane. Mine is so short, it was way too expensive to keep doing it and then immediately cutting it off. I like my gray, but I also like the shortness of it. Ah well, guess I can just wear a ball cap all the time - at least when I go out. I do about half the time anyway.

  9. Love those flowers pics but definitely not the pic of the snake. I think I'd scream if I see one near my place, lol.

I've wanted to rebond or straighten my hair since end last year but didn't get around to it and it seems I'm stuck with the current situation. I suppose I could make do with a straightening tool but the effect won't be long lasting. Oh well.

Hope you've a good week ahead and you continue to stay well and safe, Kay.

    1. These hair problems are real aren't they, Melody? Ha! As to snakes, I'm betting you have some in your area that would be very scary.

  10. Spring refreshes us with blooms! And brings the snakes back out, ugh. My hair is long and kept in a French braid down the back, so I don't have to worry about that, but my daughters are really having trouble dealing with being unable to have their's cut and shaped.

    1. I think the shaping is the issue and these little curls I get at the corners of the back. Maybe I'll just get my husband to snip those off. My hair was long when I was a teenager, but not since my 20's.

  11. Beautiful photos, Kay! I just started obsessing about my hair this past week... I've been coloring it since my 30s and can't imagine what color it is now. Think I'm about to find out. ;-)

    1. Ha! I bet you are about to find out, JoAnn. Sorry, I shouldn't laugh. I know that these are not hugely serious problems, but they seem like it. I have a friend who gets a manicure every week and she's really worried about her nails. She gets the gel things and french manicure. I told her they will eventually grow off, but they won't be pretty while they do that.

  12. You made me laugh! I wonder how many people are thinking about shaving their heads. :) Not me! I got my hair cut and highlighted a few weeks ago in preparation for our road trip. Rod got his cut, too. With my long, straight hair, I can go many months between visits. My last was back in August before Amy's wedding, so that tells you how infrequently I go. Rod, on the other hand, may wind up with a ponytail if he can't get his cut (and I don't dare try since it's so curly). Hang in there and thanks for sharing the pretty pictures (with the exception of that snake!).

    1. Now you know that you really loved the snake, Les! Ha! My husband is the one thinking of actually shaving his head. He's been looking at those hair trimmers as he usually goes to the barbershop these days because he has his hair cut so short. I wouldn't be surprised if he buys some kind of barber tool. LOL

  13. Yikes! I hate snakes, even harmless ones. Luckily, I haven't seen many in my yard, although I have seen some big ones (from afar, thankfully) slithering around in more desert-y communities.

Those pink flowers on top are gorgeous! I love the bright color. They're very cheery.

Yeah, my grey is going to be coming in very soon. Scary! I have shoulder length hair, so I'm not worried about growth, just all the grey. The good thing is, I'm hardly going anywhere anyway and everyone else is in the same boat as me :)

    1. I loved those pink flowers too. Very happy looking. Have no suggestions about the hair. Good luck, but you're right - no one will see much. I may just wear a ball cap when I go out. I do when I go walking anyway.

  14. I didn't get my hair colored as I had scheduled. By the time this is over I might be all gray...I'm just not ready for that yet. I'm hoping before I see anyone or go back to school I will have time to get in to get it colored.
Glad you are safe and well.....we are just doing our best to practice social distancing at our house.

    1. Oh gray isn't so bad, but I do understand. Yes, with just two of us here it isn't so hard, but social distancing when I go to the grocery store is a bit complicated at times. Take care, Tina!

  15. It's funny how much I am missing my haircut. I decided to get bangs last time, thinking I'd go every month to get my hair trimmed...I understand completely how you are feeling!

    1. Deb, I'm trying not to laugh about your bangs. I know that it will get annoying, but I also know that there are many reasons why I don't cut or trim hair (or really anything much). I think I did it once when my daughter was young and she still reminds me what a disaster it was. LOL

  16. My mom has also kept her hair really short for as long as I can remember. Last year she was between appointments and let it grow out a bit shaggy. She got so many compliments that she keeps it longer on the sides now. You never know what you might discover!

  17. lol I had a hair appt also this past weekend. I don't know what I will look like by the time we can get haircuts. I am enjoying lots of different wildflowers in my yard too. I threw a bunch of seeds in one area several years ago so it is always a nice surprise as to what comes up and where in the spring.

  18. I've been contemplating letting my hair be gray and not color it, and this just may be the perfect time to make that decision. I cut my husband's hair, so he is golden. LOL. I hope to see some lovely things growing now that it is getting warmer on my daily walks. Have a great week staying safe.

    1. Nise', you're right that this might be the right time to transition. My experience in that area was not really so bad because of the shortness of my cut. I've been happy to not have to mess with coloring or highlighting. Hope your weather will stay nice enough for you to get out some and see what's blooming.

  19. I am not a fan of snakes in my path.

The hair. I am glad that I color my own hair now. I colored it two days ago and feel human and my hair is long so I can go longer without a cut. My cut is scheduled for 4/14 but it won't happen, of course. I feel sorry for all the people who get their nails done regularly, the grow out is more than unsightly, it's a health issue with bacteria and the like.

    1. Oh yes, the nails. I have one friend that has a French manicure and always keeps it up to date - weekly I think. I've talked to her but haven't asked. Suspect it is bugging her big time.

  20. I'm so glad you are enjoying your walks and finding pops of color! I have barely been out except for quick runs to the grocery store. So glad I can work from home but it's been crazy. I'm so glad I don't color my hair or get manicures otherwise I would be in big trouble! haha... Granted, my hair may be really long by the time we get back to the office.
