Waiting on...Hid From Our Eyes by Julia Spencer-Fleming

Greetings, book friends!  You know, one of the things that has changed dramatically in the last few weeks is the possibility of a book tour for authors that have new books just published or soon-to-be published.  They have all been cancelled.  Of course, this has affected the authors, the book venues where events were to be held (bookstores, libraries, book conventions).  Many are doing online events, such as the Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona.  This independent bookstore has many, many book events each year and they put many of them on Facebook or YouTube.  Right now, they are doing totally virtual book events with as many authors on their schedule as they can.

I've decided that in upcoming days, I'm going to be highlighting some books that are soon-to-be published or some that have recently been published.  I'll admit that I'm not reading much, but I know that will change over time.  If a book is not yet out, this will be a 'Waiting on' feature.  If it is already published, it will be just the title and author.  No reviews from me will accompany these, but perhaps in the future I'll do those.  Watch for these every couple of days and add to your TBR, purchase for yourself, or ask your library to purchase these books.  It all helps.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, I'm starting with a book that I've been 'Waiting on' for several years.  This is the 9th book in the author's wonderful mystery series that's set in upstate New York.  There will indeed be a 'virtual' author event from the Poisoned Pen - details here.

Publication Date:  April 7th

1952. Millers Kill Police Chief Harry McNeil is called to a crime scene where a woman in a party dress has been murdered with no obvious cause of death.

1972. Millers Kill Police Chief Jack Liddle is called to a murder scene of a woman that's very similar to one he worked as a trooper in the 50s. The only difference is this time, they have a suspect. Young Vietnam War veteran Russ van Alstyne found the body while riding his motorcycle and is quickly pegged as the prime focus of the investigation.

Present-day. Millers Kill Police Chief Russ van Alstyne gets a 911 call that a young woman has been found dead in a party dress, the same MO as the crime he was accused of in the 70s. The pressure is on for Russ to solve the murder before he's removed from the case.

Russ will enlist the help of his police squad and Reverend Clare Fergusson, who is already juggling the tasks of being a new mother to her and Russ's baby and running St. Alban's Church, to finally solve these crimes.

Readers have waited years for this newest book and Julia Spencer-Fleming delivers with the exquisite skill and craftsmanship that have made her such a success.

  1. I've been waiting on this book for forever! I do have an ARC from NetGalley and have been holding off on reading it simply because once it is over with I'll again be waiting for the next in the series.

    1. I hope you enjoy it when you decide to try it, Tina. You probably know that Julia's life has been hard the last few years, losing her husband to cancer. However, I hope she has much success with this new book, regardless of the situation we are now in.

  5. Years ago I read a few books by this author and am not sure why she fell off my radar. Her new book sounds good. (like you my reading as slowed - I do have a few reviews from early March I still need to post.)

    1. Diane, I totally understand about a series falling off our radar. That has happened to me several time. I've enjoyed this one very much, though I'm not quite caught up. I should consider reading the whole series when I get my reading back up to speed.

  11. Ok, I really fell behind on this series because now they have a baby?!
This pandemic has upended our lives in so many ways but I do love to see how people are getting creative to still make things happen - like virtual book tours. I've been so busy with work that I've hardly paid attention to what's going on in the book world but maybe I'll be able to check out some.
