Places I've loved to be in the past and hope to be again sometime in the future...

Hello book friends!  Hope you are all well and safe and content as you can be right now.  My husband and I are doing fine.  We had some plans for later this year - trips, vacations, journeys.  Not sure if any of those will happen - probably not - however, it doesn't stop me from thinking about past places we've traveled and the memories are very nice.  Here are a few pictures of places I loved to be in the past and hope to be again sometime in the future.

Bandon Dunes, Oregon

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Ruidoso, New Mexico

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

And, of course, the wonderful independent bookstores wherever you travel.  Here's a few I've loved.  Don't forget the independent bookstores in these days of change and closure.

Poisoned Pen - Scottsdale, Arizona

Tattered Cover - Denver, Colorado

Third Street Books - McMinnville, Oregon

Books Etcetera - Ruidoso, New Mexico

  1. Glad you're doing well. We are seriously missing New Orleans right now - where we spent the last few months - but I'm glad we're not stuck in a hotel room right now I guess! Poisoned Pen bookstore is high up on my places to visit and I'd really just love to explore Arizona and New Mexico. I have a feeling this year we will be staying East. If we do end up going on vacation I see Virginia in my future. And of course I want to go back to New Orleans!

    1. I'm glad you're not stuck in a hotel in New Orleans too! I think you'd love the Poisoned Pen. You'll be able to get back to 'regular' vacations one day. :-)

  2. Lovely pictures, Kay, thank you for sharing! We know our summer plans aren't happening, but I'm hoping we'll be able to go somewhere in the fall. If not, we'll have to plan lots of trips for next year!

    1. Yes, maybe in the fall, Angela. We still haven't cancelled everything for our trips, but the time is coming when we'll need to make decisions. Sigh.

    1. Yes, I keep thinking how different things were when we were initially planning these trips in November and December.

  4. Lovely pics, Kay! I know I want to do a lot of things once this situation is over! And the first place I'd go is the bookstore and the library.

    1. I agree Melody - the library and bookstore for sure. I'm not at all sure when my library volunteering will resume. Maybe not for a long time.

  5. How fun to see all these lovely places! And that labyrinth--what a wonderful place for a walking meditation.

    1. Oh, that labyrinth was wonderful. I can't wait to go there and walk it again.

  6. Beautiful! The only place I've been to on your list is The Poisoned Pen. I went there for an author signing a looonnggg time ago and I haven't been there since. Maybe I'll visit once the world opens up again!

    1. I hope so too, Les. We still haven't cancelled our Oregon trip, but the time is coming when we'll need to decide one way or the other. Probably will have to cancel - sadly.

  8. All those places look so beautiful. I especially would love to Oregon and see that labyrinth path. And, bookstores of course! I'm so bummed out about our travel plans as well. Normally we'd be firming up the last details for our trip in July but that's not going to happen. Ugh. Don't even want to think about it. Ah, well I guess it's some armchair travels for now. Happy to hear you guys are doing well!

    1. Yes, we've still not cancelled everything, but the deadlines are coming. I suspect all the travels will be postponed to next year.

  9. I have a story about the Tattered Cover. When we visited Colorado, we my son and Hub went off to see baseball game and I took my daughter, who was only about 3 at the time, to the children's museum. I did not know how small the museum was or that hardly anything there would entertain my kid for more than 10 minutes so I looked at a map and figured out how to walk to the Tattered Cover through one sketchy neighborhood, under a bridge and in the pouring rain. My daughter and I showed up like two drowned rats but spent the entire rainy afternoon in the children's section until my hub could pick us with the rental car. It was a lovely afternoon. I someday hope to return.

  11. I will never forget the first time I was in the Tattered Cover. It felt like a dream. My husband thought I got lost or something happened. Ha... I have always lived in small towns without a book store at all. You can imagine how I felt walking into his huge building full of books I could actually purchase. Or sit in a quiet corner and read some before buying. I always left broke. Ha
I don't get to Denver much anymore. Sigh~~

    1. Oh, yes! I totally understand. Such a wonderful place to spend some time. We don't go to Colorado all that often - more in the past, but the TC was on my list of 'must see' places in Denver.

  12. Oregon is definitely on my list of places I'd like to visit again someday. And those book stores look amazing. I hope they survive this stupid pandemic.

    1. I hope they do too. I know that all of them are doing what they can to survive. And we love Oregon.

  13. Hi Kay!

I would love to someday go to the Poisoned Pen, as much as I've heard of it from you and Kathy @ Kittling. But now being on the east coast and who knows when travel will safely start up again, I don't see it happening soon.

We can still travel through our books, right? A good consolation prize for us all.

    1. Hey Rita! Great to see you around again! We can definitely still travel through books and I actually see a lot more places that way than I do in real life.

  14. Great pics & places! Love the bookstores. I've been to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, neat boulders! Gosh I miss traveling. I've had like 4 trips canceled from March thru June and I didn't think I'd miss it .... but I do.

    1. Yes, we're going to miss our usual summer travels. We've been rescheduling some things for 2021. It gets really hot in our part of the world in summer. Sigh.

  15. Colorado Springs is definitely one of my favorite places to return back to. I love it if I can see mountains from wherever I am. Loved the Tattered Cover bookstore as well. Gosh -- I hope we can all return back to traveling soon.

    1. I agree and I hope so too. We've cancelled our official trips for the summer. Will have to see how things go. Our area gets really warm in summer and we like to go to the mountains.

  16. I've been to Colorado Springs (love your pics!) and the Tattered Cover- such a great bookstore. We aren't making plans for this year, just waiting to see how everything goes the next few months. We don't plan on changing much except more nature time if the weather ever cooperates.

    1. Spring will come one day for you guys. I'm kind of dreading the warmer weather that we'll get. Probably no trips to the mountains this summer. Just hot, hot, hot...sigh.
