'Waiting on Wednesday' is an event where I feature an upcoming book that I am extra excited about. I used to do this in the past and am making it a priority to do again. Seriously, who among us doesn't have a book or two or twenty that we are excited about reading? Plus, it lets us 'spread the word' about authors and series that we personally enjoy.
This week's book is by Ruth Ware, an author who writes books that I've enjoyed for several years. Ruth Ware's books are normally standalones, but the one I'm talking about this week features the return of a character from a previous book. Lo Blacklock was the protagonist in Ware's The Woman In Cabin 10. I read that one in 2017 and talked about it here. Set on a cruise ship, the Cabin 10 book featuring Lo Blacklock, a travel journalist, was quite the page turner. This new book brings Lo back and sends her to the opening of a Swiss hotel. I'm curious to see how this one goes. Have you read books by Ruth Ware? What did you think?
The Woman In Suite 11
by Ruth Ware
Publication Date: July 8th
In this follow-up to #1 New York Times bestselling author Ruth Ware’s multi-million copy mega-hit The Woman in Cabin 10, Lo Blacklock returns to attend the opening of a luxury hotel, only to find herself in a white-knuckled race across Europe.
When the invitation to attend the press opening of a luxury Swiss hotel—owned by reclusive billionaire Marcus Leidmann—arrives, it’s like the answer to a prayer. Three years after the birth of her youngest child, Lo Blacklock is ready to reestablish her journalism career, but post-pandemic travel journalism is a very different landscape from the one she left ten years ago.
The chateau on the shores of Lake Geneva is everything Lo’s ever dreamed of, and she hopes she can snag an interview with Marcus. Unfortunately, he proves to be even more difficult to pin down than his reputation suggests. When Lo gets a late-night call asking her to come to Marcus’s hotel room, she agrees despite her own misgivings. She’s greeted, however, by a woman claiming to be Marcus’s mistress, and in life-or-death jeopardy.
What follows is a thrilling cat-and-mouse pursuit across Europe, forcing Lo to ask herself just how much she’s willing to sacrifice to save this woman…and if she can even trust her?
I hope this one turns out to be a fantastic read. I'm looking forward to the new Anne Tyler book.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about that one, Deb. Hope it's a good one!
DeleteI've only read two of Ruth Ware's books: In A Dark, Dark Wood and The Woman in Cabin Ten. I loved the first book, but was disapointed by the second, and have not gone on to read any others. Since I didn't care for Lo's internal whining in TWICT, I doubt I'll read this new book.
ReplyDeleteLes, I think I remember that you weren't a fan of the Cabin Ten book. I will say that I loved In A Dark, Dark Wood and I didn't love Cabin 10 as much. And I remember getting frustrated a bit with Lo. If I get a chance to try this new one, I'll be curious how it compares.
DeleteI haven't read anything by Ruth Ware but want to. Perhaps I'll look The Woman in Cabin 10.
ReplyDeleteCath, honestly, I'd start with her first book - In A Dark, Dark Wood. It's really suspenseful. As I replied to Les above, the Cabin 10 book was not as good as the Dark Wood book. We'll see how this new one goes.
DeleteThanks for the tip, Kay. I will do that thing.
DeleteInteresting! I loved The Woman in Cabin 10 (though I agree not as good as In a Dark Dark Wood) but Lo isn't a main character I really expected to see again. Hopefully she's got her life a bit more together in this one!
ReplyDeleteKatherine, I agree about not expecting to see Lo again. We'll see how it goes in this one. And my favorite of Ware's books is still In A Dark, Dark Wood.
DeleteI'm always excited for a new Ruth Ware book since I love them too. I'm wondering if I need to reread THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10 before reading this sequel since I remember very little about the story or the characters...
ReplyDeleteSusan, I understand your thoughts. I was trying to decide the same thing. We shall see.
DeleteI want to read this one too. I have enjoyed everything I've read by Ruth Ware.
ReplyDeleteHope you get to try it, Wendy!
DeleteI haven't read a Ruth Ware book but I think I'll add The Woman in Cabin 10 to my Libby requests. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMary
Mary, as I suggested to Cath above, I'd recommend In A Dark, Dark Wood as my favorite this author's books. As I recall, The Woman In Cabin 10 was good on audio.
DeleteThat's really cool that she's bringing back an older character! I remember reading The Woman in Cabin 10.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think this was interesting choice as '2nd look' at a character. We'll see how it goes.
DeleteI read The Woman in Cabin 10 and had mixed feelings about it. Maybe because it reminded me of a Hitchcock movie I'd just seen and I guessed the main plot twist very early on. And then I didn't love the timeline shifts in it, but it read fast. And was fun. Just not my favorite. So I don't know if I'll read this newest one.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand your thoughts, Lark. I think I will try it, but we'll see how it goes.
DeleteI have not read Ruth Ware, but I do know lots of folks who love her writing.
ReplyDeleteYes, she has been very successful in the last few years. Don't know if her storytelling would speak to you, Deb, but you never know. ;-)
DeleteI have not read her yet - but I'm excited that there's a sequel to her popular early book and I plan to read the Woman in Cabin 10 soon. Apparently it's going to be a movie too with Keira Knightley, lol ... Enjoy book 2.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I didn't know about the movie. Interesting. The book might work better as a movie format perhaps.
DeleteI like Ruth Ware alot. Certainly psychological thrillers.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. I've enjoyed her work.
