I'm posting a 'soon to be released' book on Wednesdays. These will always be books that I am particularly looking forward to. I'll be linking up to 'Can't-Wait Wednesday' hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings and plan to take part in this each week.
This year I've caught up on author Ann Cleeves books featuring Vera Stanhope. I now need to read her Shetland series. The book I'm waiting on this week is the 8th (and I understand, the last) in that series:
by Ann Cleeves
Publication Date: September 4th
When the Flemings—designer Helena and architect Daniel—move into a remote community in the north of Shetland, they think it's a fresh start for themselves and their children.
But their arrival triggers resentment, and Helena begins to receive small drawings of a gallows and a hanged man. Gossip spreads like wildfire.
A story of dysfunctional families and fractured relationships, Inspector Jimmy Perez's eighth case will intrigue series fans and Shetland Island newcomers alike.
I thought this sounded familiar- I've watched the Shetland TV show and liked it a lot! I didn't realize at first these are the books the show is based on. Sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI'm betting they are just as good as the TV show, if a little different (often the case with TV adaptations, right?).
DeleteThis is a new one to me, but I am always up for a good mystery. Great pick.
ReplyDeleteJenea, I love this author's way of writing.
DeleteI love the sound of this one. And i've visited the Shetland Islands and can vouch for their remoteness and beauty.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you've gotten to see this setting in the 'real', Catherine! It looks so beautiful.
DeleteThat looks like a good one!
ReplyDeleteI hope so, Kathy!
DeleteI've read a couple in this series and this one sounds good! Love Vera Stanhope, but Jimmy Perez is a great character, too.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Of course, at this point, I only know Jimmy from the TV show, but I bet I'll like him in print as well.
DeleteGoodness! Are you up to the eighth already? Or are you reading them out of order?? Not like you... ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, no, not out of order since I haven't read any of the Shetland books as yet. I have watched the first 3 seasons of the TV show. And I am caught up on the Vera books.
DeleteI really need to start the Shetland series. I loved the first two seasons of the series that were based on the actual books. This one sounds like a good one.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that this will be the last Shetland book, but in a way, it's nice to know that I can now begin with the knowledge that there are 8 books total.
DeleteThis sounds like a great mystery! Hope you enjoy! :)
ReplyDeleteMe too, Ashley!
DeleteI have read books 1 - 4 in the series and especially liked the 4th one. Don't know when I will move on to #5 though.
ReplyDeleteGood to know about #4. I'll start this series before long.
DeleteI really like that cover! I hope this is a satisfying end to the series.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of glad to know that the series will be complete with 8 books. Now I can begin to read it. Ha!
DeleteThis is a popular one today. :-) I need to give this series a try!
ReplyDeleteIs it? I think a lot of people have discovered it because of the Shetland TV show.
DeleteI like Inspector Jimmy Perez but I didn't realize she was already at book 8! I wonder why this will be the last one? It seems like it was a popular series? Granted sometimes I think a series can go on too long and get a bit stale.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why it's the last. I didn't even know until I read it somewhere and then noticed it as I was preparing this post. Maybe she'll begin a new series?
DeleteSo wish that I liked reading series. I'd be tempted--perhaps I could just start it and pretend it's a stand-alone? ;) Love the cover of this book and your cool idea to preview one before it comes out.
ReplyDeleteOr you could just watch the TV adaptation. It's called Shetland. And it's very good.
